windshield washer fluid doesn't work right

I am having a problem with my driver side windshield washer fluid only. Only the driver side. Today I decided to dive into it a little farther and see if I could figure out why the passenger side works great but the driver side just dabbles out of the nozzle. First thing I did was break the line before the firewall and sprayed air through it with the air compressor and air shot out of both sides pretty good. The passenger side was better, but not a ton. Second thing I did just to eliminate problems was I replaced the washer pump. (That was interesting. The washer resivore is in the wheel well and so is the pump. They find the wierdest places to put things.) That didn't help. So I took off the grill and then took the air compressor and pumped air through the tube that goes from the passenger side nozzle to the driver side and the condensation from the air and moisture in the lines shot right up the window. But it didn't shoot up quite as high as it did on the passenger side when I broke the line before the passenger side and shot air through it. But the air is getting through pretty good. But then I hook the lines back up and it still shoots almost too high on the passenger side and just dabbles out on the driver side. I think the next step is going to be to replace all the lines and hardware on the driver's side unless anyone else had this problem and it ended up being an easier fix or if everyone has this problem and it is just a flaw in the design. Has anyone replaced the design of the washer fluid system to run hoses onto the wiper arms so it just puts the fluid directly on the window? That is also a protential fix. Give me your thoughts on anything to make this work better. I am going to get in an accident one of these days because I can't see because there is too much salt on my window.

Mine has always worked great- I don't think I'd ever think of going to the hassle of making it one of the kinds that spray from the wiper arm.

It seems to me that the hole on the passenger side nozzle is too big -maybe got widened out when someone tried to clean it. You said the line runs from the reservoir and pump to the passenger side and then on to the drivers side. If all the fluid gets squirted out of the larger opening it would lessen the pressure the pump could deliver to the drivers side nozzle. It WOULD also tend to shoot too far on the passenger side if my reasoning stands...

dsatt makes sense ...perhaps you could try re-routing the tubing to the drivers side first, or swap the nozzles if possible

Well the fix I am going to try is I ordered everything new from the dealer. I ordered the hose that goes from the passenger side nozzle to the driver side nozzle. I ordered new nozzles for both the passenger side and driver side and the T and L shaped adapters that hook the hoses to the nozzles. Basically everything that has anything to do with the windshield washer system will be brand new when this is done. It does cost like $40 for everything which seems excessive for something that most people would never worry about and never have problems with. But if $40 worth of parts helps me see better and possibly prevents an accident (because I can't see), it is a well spent $40 in my eyes. I'll find out what happens when I get the parts in.

$40 doesn't sound THAT excessive- provided it works of course :).

I replaced my battery a month ago or so and found that the vent tube was broken where it Ts into the rubber adapters coming from the sides of the battery. I then proceeded to break off the one that goes into the underbody trying to get it out. The damn dealer wanted $50 and two weeks to order it! That's even less cheapo plastic and rubber tubing than you got. I think some SS worm gear clamps and a couple feet of rubber fuel line cost me all of $4.

You need to find a different dealer. I had to replace my battery a few weeks ago. The new batteries are more narrow than the older batteries so the vent tube was different also. I went to the dealer and bought one for around $10 or $15. Was no $50!!!!

You need to find a different dealer.

Yep they do suck. Too bad the one I like is about 40 miles away. Not that I frequent dealerships much anyway, but some things ARE dealer only...

My new battery vent tube came with the "T" and through body piece for $16.
