Hola yall. I've got a 96 240SX. It's got 92K on the clock. Auto (not my first choice) and it's not running very well.

First thing that happened was the Check engine light came on. Then the check engine light started flashing.
Didn't think much of it, presumed it could make it through the weekend to make it to a tech... Nope. :-)

I was driving and the car just started lugging really bad. Nothing sudden, no major shift in power. The motor wouldn't spin up very well and it was shifting REALLY hard. I came to a stop and the motor almost died. I let it sit for about half an hour, and started it up. Ran fine for about 10 minutes. Then about the time the motor got hot it crapped out again..
It sounds (just sounds) like car is slightly out of time. But I believe that if the chain skipped time that the motor would just simply not run- maybe even take the whole top end out with it if it skipped. When I rev the motor up I can hear what sounds like the chain rattling on the back of the motor.

On the other hand, it doesn't make sense that the temperature of the car effects the timing. It does on some of our modified race motors, but that's mostly because the specific gravity of the fuel and exhaust variables and stuff.

So what do you guys think? O2 sensor maybe? Timing?

I think I am going to try to 02 sensor tomorrow just to see. Unless someone else has some opinions about it?
