airbag light on

Any ideas on why this light stays on. Never in accident,Connection have been cleaned.ANYONE? THANKS :banghead:

What year is your Montana? Mine is a 200 and started having this problem.

The SIR light coming on indicates a problem with the system.
The most important part of asking a question here is to give as much information as possible..especially the year,make and model of your vehicle....
Depending on the year, your vehicle could be equipped with the simple drivers only SIR system up to the Driver/passenger dual stage inflator modules with seat belt pretensioners.

2000 pontiac montana,driver and passenger,dual stage with pretensioners. light flashes then stays on. The gm garage worked on it for an hour then ran out of time. I believe he said it showed a open circut fault. But he needed more time. Just hoping there was a more common problem. thanks

What do you mean they ran out of time?
If the SIR came on, then there is a code stored to assist with diagnosis.
Most of the Montanas that have come in to the shop have been diagnosed with a bad pretensioner (1 side or the other).
Do you have the DTC# available? This way I can look at the chart and see what componant is showing the fault.

he had a doctor appt or something.Thats as far as he got. I havent rescheduled, after he said it may take some time to find. Wont be able to get any code untill tommorow, thats if he has it. Will post then. Thanks for your knowledge.

I just bought a 2000 Montana. Mine was having the same problem. Light flashing and then staying on. I looked under the passenger seat and found two wires with the plastic connectors disconnected. I connected them and now the light flashes and then goes off like it should.

How can I be sure my air bag system is ok?

Got the code that was retrieved by GM tech.

B0041 has to do with the drivers side impact module deployment loop. The SDM has seen an open circuit in this loop and has turned on the light.
Haven't seen many of those, but the diagnosis is fairly straightforeward.

Thanks for all the help, works perfect. Problem was the drivers side air bag module.
There is a technical bulletin on this for 2000 pontiac vans, with the BOO41 code.They say to first check the air bag sensor box (under the passenger seat ) for mosture. If thats not the case,proceed to the air bag module located in the drivers seat. In this case thats what it was. The wires going to the module itself had broken off the connector.(Very poor design) Should have been a recall instead of a bulletin, in my opinion.
Be very!!! careful when removing and installing module. Otherwise, plastic parts may break,upolstery could tear,be careful. Otherwise not a bad job. Hope this helps, thanks again.

I have a 2000 Montana with the same air bag light issue being discussed here. It just stayed on the other day and hasn't gone off since. The manual says "service immediately" - but is this just standard service manual talk, or is there some chance that the air bag might actually deploy while I'm driving? I've only had the van for two months. After five weeks, I had to have the transmission replaced. Two days later, a bad motor on the front passenger window. Now this...I really don't want to take it in (and pay another $100 deductible on my extended warranty) if I don't have to. Does anyone know what may or may not happen with the light staying on?

quickest way to find problem. clean connections located uner the driver and passenger seat, with contact cleaner. if no success check for moisture on module or its connection located under passenger seat. if that doesnt help I think I would pay the $100 and get it checked. also, dont thik I would risk the airbag deploying better get it checked.

According to the Service Dept. at the dealership, the light staying on indicated that the airbag is disabled and won't deploy - ever. I took it in for an oil change and had them look at it. Bad sensor in the driver side seat belt, to the tune of $150.00, at least. For the time being (and because I now have to look forward to paying for repairs to the air conditioning system!) I've had to leave it disabled. Does anyone know if you can pick up this sensor somewhere? And, if so, is it easy enough to replace by a rookie, like myself? Thanks.

I believe its called a pretensioner, very inexpensive at a auto recycling place.I got mine for $50 and the seat too. I have an extra one, if yours is a gray buckle. also, not a bad job at all. good luck.
