98 Ram 1500...considering K&N filterMyDodgeInFC 02-06-2004, 12:33 AM Hello Dodge Experts! I am considering putting a K&N factory replacement filter in my 98 Dodge Ram with a 5.9L V-8. Before I go and drop the $50 at the local parts house, is there anyone that is willing to testify for or against these filters, based on experience? I just want to know if they truly live up to their advertisements. The K&N part that I would buy is P/N 33-2084, which drops into the stock filter housing. I have heard claims of slightly better power, better mileage, etc... Any comments? Thanks in advance! sdnicker 02-07-2004, 08:29 PM I know you are looking at getting the drop in replacement part, however, I purchased the Fuel Injection Performance Kit for my 1998, 360. This includes the tube and round filter on the end of the tube. I would never waste the money on one again. I would recommend a "Jet" brand computer chip. With the chip I did notice considerabley better torque at take off and more ease when pulling trailers. The biggest improvement with the new air filter was better power when passing on the highway.....however not worth the extra "sucking" noise from the engine compartment it makes almost all of the time. And it did not raise my MPG contrary to their claims. tomp34 02-12-2004, 02:23 PM I've been using K&N Filters for over 10 years, and my experience with them is very good. I still have a (I bought it new)93 Escort Gt and I bought the filters on the first service date, I still have the filter same filter, I just take it out every 3 months to clean it. My car response was improved with it. :smokin: Ok I bought a 2001 5.9 4x4 Ram 1500 last Nov. I installed the filter 2 weeks ago and I do notice an improvement on my mpg. I travel a lot, about and with the gas prices going up every day, I keep my eye on the mpg of my Tazmanain Devil :icon16: On thing about K&N if you take care they can last many years, so you pay big bucks today, but you'll save $ on the long run. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
