00' left blinker gets stuck. When it works vehicle thinks lights on when you brake?

Hi, any help appreciated on this one. 1999/2000 GMC 5.3L 4x4 SLE with every option available.

So here is the scenario. Left turn signal does not work, it just gets stuck on and makes one buzzing noise from the flasher by fuses inside by the door(bulbs do get power and come on). And that is what happens 75% of the time, however 25% of the time the blinker does work, but the vehicle thinks that the lights are on. (I have headlights that automaticlly come on, don't know if its a factor) When key is inserted and the door is open the truck will beep and the gauges will light up slightly, but not ALL the way like as if the lights really were on.
Start truck, left turn signal works, but every time it blinks the gauge dials dim as if the lights were on (which they are not) And also, If I press on the brake pedal vehicle thinks the lights are on and dims the gauges just like with the left turn signal.

2 Dealers said they think it is the unit inside of the stearing colum, I forget exactly what they called it, but it costs $300. I'm a little confused how that could be related to my brake pedal and the truck thinking the ligths are on ? Can anyone help me on this, you would save my life cause I'm getting married and I am dead broke. Thanks a lot - Bue

You might be stuck with this one, it sounds like something has a poor ground, you may find it or not, good luck.

check the plug under the dash where the multifunction(signal) switch plugs in it's held together with a bolt sounds like it's loose. the connector is located on a metal bracket under the dash between the e-brake and brake pedal. i think the cluster harness in conected to this same plug. hope this works for you.

Well First off hope your marriage went better than your problem you have here. And congrats!

I have an 01' Sierra SL, funny did the same damn thing. There is a module inside the column. If it goes funky you will have all kinds of neat things happen. And yes all those goodies you mention..all work together.

It is a dealer item and it will cost you $$$!!!!

Good Luck
John
