Easy addition for CAV owners IAmStingRay 04-24-2001, 04:20 PM
One easy way to make the interior look nice on a Cav is to make your knobs clear (AC, FAN, etc.). For newer Cav's it is very easy, take off the knobs (just pull... hard!!!) and peel off the black, plastic covering. They look way better and it is really easy to do. Ironmike215 04-05-2002, 11:23 AM I've seen cars with that done...thanks man i was wondering how that was done...it looks really cool Goldilow 04-12-2002, 07:17 AM heh, anyway to change the bulb in the control unit to make the knobs glow blue? Ironmike215 04-12-2002, 03:50 PM maybe if you take it all apart you can unsolder the LED's they prob. use and solder in blue ones...? im not too sure Marc04 04-12-2002, 09:19 PM paint the insides of them what ever color you want with a GLASS paint. and if you are not all ready, i suggest joing J-Body.org its a great place for J-Bodies like us!! Ironmike215 04-12-2002, 09:45 PM hey good idea...that would work well...but dont the Lights need to be bright enough to make them glow? Marc04 04-13-2002, 06:06 PM they are, i've seen it done. it looks great Ironmike215 04-13-2002, 09:56 PM i see. very nice idea then...have you seen other colors besides the blue? Pikachoo 04-23-2002, 12:12 PM Saw a guy around town with purple lights all over his dash. It was a good looking car. Ironmike215 04-23-2002, 04:34 PM hmm...purple...like purple purple or like a black-light shade of purple? Pikachoo 04-25-2002, 08:30 AM It is a dark purple, almost kind of blue. Kind of like the led light on the front of the PS2. I guess It does have kind of the same shade as blacklight, but not quite. It looked really good IMHO and I think the guy used red as a complimenting color. Kind of like this (different car, I don't think this is quite the same color, but same idea)... http://www.edmunds.com/media/roadtests/roadtest/01.5.vw.passat/01.5.vw.passat.dash.500.jpg CuztomCavi 04-25-2002, 03:41 PM I really wana do it, but i dont wana screw it up :( Ironmike215 04-25-2002, 04:21 PM that is cool. good color too. Pikachoo 04-26-2002, 12:48 PM Nah, done worry about it, there's no way to really screw it up. It is just kind of time consuming to get behind the dash and put in all of the lights. Just look up the stock light number for your car, then look around for custom bulbs with the same number. I would probably order several shades of the color you want (just one bulb a piece) and when you find the color you want, go with it. Be careful though, my friend did all blue lights, and about 2 weeks of use the blue faded all away and they were just white. Ironmike215 04-28-2002, 03:57 AM man that sucks...were they cheap bulbs or something? Pikachoo 04-29-2002, 02:24 PM Yea, they were painted blue on the outside, so after a while the blue paint burnt off, so all that was left was a plain old white light. doh!! So he got some better lights and they worked out fine. Ironmike215 04-29-2002, 04:31 PM something good to watch for... spymac 05-15-2002, 04:16 AM I did this "mod" if you want to call it that. I pulled on the knobs, they came off semi easy. I used a hair dryer to heat up the plastic, melting the glue slightly to peel off the platic ouside. I then sanded and buffed the face of the knobs to get rid of all the ugly shards of plastic you have on the knobs. Then i used transparent model paint, and pained the backs of them blue. They look awesome at the daytime, and glow bright blue at night, very cool! Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
