Water in front speaker enclosures. 97 gtwbs97gp 01-31-2004, 09:29 PM Today I replaced the front speakers in my 97 gt, since the drivers side was blown, and found water sitting in the bottom of the speaker enclosures. Has anyone run into this, and if so what was the fix? I just have a little difficulty undersanding how the watter got there given the locacion. Thanks for any assistance. Walter kilroypr 02-01-2004, 06:51 AM Check the glass lining at the door when the glass is closed. Just take out the door outer cover, close the glass and door. Hose it gently and then look how the water pours in. I am pretty sure is the glass lining... theguru 02-01-2004, 08:44 AM Yeah, sounds like the glass seals at base of glass. E-mail me if you need OEM part numbers. Good luck. Flatrater 02-01-2004, 10:51 AM Yeah, sounds like the glass seals at base of glass. They are not glass seals! They do not prevent water from going down the door. Have you ever removed the door panel to see a thick sheet of plastic on the door? Its a water barrier, its purpose is to prevent water from leaking inside the car! Replacing those weatherstrips will not stop water from getting in the door. The seals are designed to allow water past them and the water will drain out the bototm of the door at the drain holes. My suggestion is to install a sheet of plastic over the speaker making the water run down away from the speaker. wbs97gp 02-02-2004, 07:44 AM Thanks for the replies, I checked the rubber window seals on the outside of the door, and noticed that there is a small gap between it and the window, when the window is close. I understand that this part will not prevent water from entering the door, but it will slow it down, and also limit the amount that gets in. I am thingking about replacing this parts, and also looking at re-routing the speaker wires, since what I think might be happening is that water is getting in, and then running down the wire and dripping in the enclsure.
