Anyone know how the heated seats are powered on this one? I was told fuse 14 which is listed as backup lights. 15 A. Made no difference. Both seats quit heating at same time. Thanks- Joe

my glx vr6 1996 station wagon is suppose to have heated seats, but im not sure if i have even noticed the seats being heated. i do know that water drippped inside the sunroof, and now the seats have burn marks in the leather. so maybe mine does have heated seats.

does the come standard on 1996 Passat GLX VR6's? dont know if they even work.

Then fuse 14 (10 amp) is the one for your seats as well. If you say it's fine maybe have a look at the controllers in the dash. They can be pulled out (carefully) using a screwdriver. Check to make sure they are connected properly. If you can get at it try checking the control module under the seat. I havent had any trouble with mine so I'm afraid I'm not much help. Mike.

Thanks folks- it was infact fuse number 14. My problem was that i was counting over from right to left following the plastic cover for the fusebox. When I got my fat butt down there with a flashlight, I could see the burned fuse-14 from the left. They both work now. I also, after having to jump start the car (-22f) last week noticed a severe decrease in idle speed. About 500 vs 750. In doing some reading it looks like the battery went dead and the throttle body positioning or "adaptation" needs to b e relearned. I cleaned the throttle body and it at least stays running now, but still a low idle. (before it would start and not stay idling until somewhat warmed). Will this "relearn" the proper idle speed, or do I have to have the errors cleared? Can I simply disconnect the battery for a while? Thanks Again- Joe

Joe, if your car is manual trans; Start it with all accessories off, in neutral. Let engine temp increase to normal operating range, idle for one minute in neutral. For auto trans; start in "P" or "N" and let warm until normal temp or cooling fan comes on. Idle for one minute in "N", select "D" and let idle for one minute. Drive car and accelerate at normal throttle position until it reaches top gear. Cruise at low to medium throttle position. Decelerate to a stop allowing the trans to downshift through each gear and using normal braking. Basically what is happening is the computer is learning how you drive/operate the car. It may do this for some time until it notices common traits and will adapt to them. Try to be consisitent driving during this time (up to 40 engine starts). This explains why the car drives like crap after my wife drives it. Mike.
