steering shudder low speedjim56 01-31-2004, 12:17 PM My 97 has had a shudder in the steering at very low speeds since I got it 2 years ago with 68k on it. It now has 118,000 on it.Anyway, the other day my mechanic calls and tells me one of his vendors ( Wynns) has a new device that flushes all the old steering fluid out and replaces it with clean fluid. They claim that the fluid gets contaminated over time, causing the pump to cavitate or something. BTW Olds addresssed the issue a couple of years ago with a TSB that says replace the steering hose with a longer one, about 200 bucks.Anyway, they offered to demo it at no cost. It completely eliminated the problem. semisendiz 03-04-2004, 06:43 PM My 97 shudders when turning right only, both forward and reverse. Did you go for the flush, and how much $ ? jim56 03-04-2004, 07:22 PM They didnt charge me. Im a pretty good customer of his and they used my car for a demo of it.. I think he said it would probably run 80 bucks or so with fluid normally semisendiz 03-04-2004, 07:26 PM Now then, Who performs the flush/what's it called? RobertHammen 03-05-2004, 08:21 AM I did notice the shudder while my '98 was under warranty. The TSB fixed the problem (longer hose), but it's come back slightly - sounds like the problem is more contamination than the length of the hose... --Robert semisendiz 03-08-2004, 06:08 PM Bare with me guys, but What is "TSB"and "BTW"? RobertHammen 03-08-2004, 06:54 PM TSB = Technical Service Bulletin BTW = By The Way semisendiz 03-08-2004, 07:15 PM Thanks, learning something new everyday. Does the dealer perform this TSB still? Indy8 03-09-2004, 02:14 PM Yes, for around $600. semisendiz 03-09-2004, 05:43 PM Is the flushing of the power steering fliud the only other probable solution? How much fluid does it take to refill? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
