99 Rodeo blown trannyseanyc23 01-29-2004, 05:19 PM I have a 99 rodeo w/ just over 90k miles, and the tranny just went on me. Are there any recalls or defects that i should know about? Thanks amigo-2k 01-29-2004, 08:53 PM No recalls, no defects. They are pretty much bullet proof (I have only heard of a couple of trannys going out in the +98's). The most common tranny problem is they electronic connector comes loose or gets dirty, or the Alt is on the way out and the electronics in the tranny make it shift funny due to not getting the right voltage. The same tranny is in the BMW Z3 and Cadillac Cateria. When is the last time you changed the tranny fluid? Do you Tow a lot? -Ryan surferfletch 01-29-2004, 11:59 PM Damn. I love to hear the tranny in my rig called bulletproof. seanyc23 01-31-2004, 01:37 AM I never tow. I bought it 2yrs. old w about 60k and i had the tranny flushed once. Any clues what could have caused it? rodeo02 01-31-2004, 10:17 AM I certainly would not call them bullet-proof, but they are well above average for reliability. The 4L30E basic design has been around for over 20 years. The hardware, gear clusters, bearings & clutch packs are a bit on the small side for a truck & actually came from the 3L30 (3spd) that was in the little chevrolet chevette!! :uhoh: :banghead: They added the adapter housing for 4th gear (OD), converted it to electronics & bolted it onto our Isuzu's. If you change out the ATF as often as you can stand (do not go past 36Kmi!!) they will last 200Kmi+ with normal usage. G/luck Joel jzingkng 01-31-2004, 12:44 PM Anybody have ATF change instructions? I imagine it's pretty easy, but owners manual says contact Isuzu dealership. Same on front and rear axel fluid changes. Any recommendations as to where to go for those instructions too?
