engine whine at 25k rpmbmilone 01-24-2004, 02:41 PM its actually not much of a whine, but sounds more like a tuning fork. is faint, but loud enough to notice it. occurs when tach reads 22 rpms (in all gears, 1st thru 5th) or so and continues until the car is not in gear. could this be a clutch problem? i may be ready for a new one at 65k mi. any ideas would be appreciated. termitesgraffix 01-24-2004, 10:31 PM First of all, if your car is going to 25K = 25,000 RPM then you really have a problem. I don't know of any cars that go that high. Make sure you are using proper terms. I believ you meen 2500 RPM Yea though sounds like it is almost time to replace. 50K mi yea sure go for it. The whine though could be a wheel bearing maybe??? orrrrrrrr (is it a new car?) i doubt this, but the fluid in your transmission could be low. broken seal? (((Yes manual transmissions have fluid and do need to be checked)) but they are a pain in the ass to check. have to get under there and loosen the check plug. if it starts to pour out put it right back in and you are good to go. if nothing comes out or you can't see it... you will need to pour a little bit in. good luck vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
