this mivi van was lacking in maintenance, died i did a tune up...weeks later it just stopped running and won't start...has spark but no fuel,i have replaced the fuel pump relay, the ASD relay(Automatic Shut Down),and still have no power going to the fuel pump.testing the harness,i find only 1 of 4 wires live, trying to jump the other 2 of 3,it still doesn't turn the pump on,even connecting a sure ground to it.any ideas before i pull down the tank? A Haynes manual may as well be used for kindling in the schematic area for the pump assembly.....

your fuel on comes on only for second when key is turned on. It will come on again while engine is cranking or running. Have someone crank motor while you check for live wire. I also have an 89 GV with 3.0. This happened to me a couple years ago. Turned out this one time it decided to stop pulling gas @ 1/4 tank. pump was working. After couple days of hair pulling, put five gals. of gas in and it started. Has not run out since but I keep gas with me.

i added close to another 5 gallons, and still no luck, with in the next couple of days im gonna drop the tank and try to hotwire the pump in my hand, figuring maybe just a bad connection in the harness above the tank where i can't see....thx for asking again :-)

i pulled down the tank, massively cleaned the connector...jumped the power wire to the pump and no luck,i lifted and banged the tank up and down on the ground half dozen times, poured a slight amount of raw fuel into the air intake tube, cranked the engine and low and behold...it ran till the fuel ran out....did this multiple times....eventually it started by itself, and is now running under it's own pump power....hint to all with this problem>>>drop the tank, beat the heck outta the pump assembly, and add at least 7 gallons of fresh fuel.....no help? try the shut off relay or the automatic shutdown relay(ADS)...gl

the fuel pump relay is the asd relay...auto matic shutdown relay, located under the hood,on the drivers side, closest to the windshield. the "hot" lead for the fuel pump is dark green and may even have a black stripe on it also, try jumping this wire with a live positive wire, and see if the pump reacts...if it doesn't turn on,it's definately a bad pump.with average should run you around $75 for just the pump, and around $125 for the complete pump assembly...hope this helps

You will still need a fuel pump, it will quit again.

in the long run,you probably will definately need to replace the pump...it sounds like it's on it's last leg....mine worked, quit, worked, quit, worked till it finally died for good

Ok,here's the deal.I've had a problem with my 90 van shutting down on me while I'm sitting still.I thought it was the fuel pump so I replaced it.It cranked up fine a ran for a few miles then cut off again. Then all it would do was turn over and over and never fire.So then I replaced the fuel pump relay, ignition coil, battery, battery terminals, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor button.Still didn't crank.I then got a tip about replacing the fusible links on the ignition coil.I did that and it finally cranks. The only problem now is that it still wants to cut off periodically. What else can I do?Thanks

the engine cranking, and the engine getting fuel are two seperate systems...i.e.,the fuel, and the starting...therefor if you're having problems in the fuel system.Have you tried replacing the fuel filter yet? if it's getting clogged after a few minutes runnning, then back drains,it'll clear it self out and restart after a few minutes(10-15)?.When you turn on the key to start it,does the fuel pump fire up?if not, you're back to the pump,if it does,i'd be looking to be sure i have spark to the ignition system...if all else fails and you think it may be electronic...you can turn the ignition key on and off 3 times, then a 4th leaving it on the 4th,and watching your check engine light for trouble codes ( this is only about 85% acurate),to get a 100% accurate check,i suggest taking it to your local Autozone parts store and they will scan it for free,gl
