Hello all,

I guess this means the electric fuel pump relay is welded. Anyone know where it is located.

Thanks

the relay for the fuel pump should be under the hood in the auxilary fuse panel,,and should be clearly marked on back of your fuse panel cover

Thanks for responding. I finally found the relay and it was bad. It is behind the upholstery inside the trunk on the left wall. There are some other goodies in there too.

Good luck,

What you found was the fuel cutoff/inertia switch.

If that was "bad' then the pump wouldn't run at all. The Inertia Fuel Shutoff switch is there to shut off the fuel pump if you are in an accident.

97 bird,

Thanks for the post. I agree. I know what I found and replaced was the relay. I jumpered the connections per a schematic I found and applied power to both the old and new relay coils. The new relay actuated and connected the pump contacts to power when i electrified the relay coil. The old bad relay did nothing and the pump power contacts were made whether I had the relay actuated or not. A classic case of welded control contacts.

Thanks again,

Dick Horowitz

By the way, the inertia switch is back there too.

Sorry about the mis-info. I was thinking it was the same as the '94 and newer which are in the engine compartment behind the passenger headlight.
