No heat what so ever!

Before I began, yes, I do realize there are other numerous threads on heat. However, I'm in need of some direct assistance towards my case.

To began, its a 1997 Ford Ranger. The problem is that no heat is blowing out. Air is blowing out, but its damn cold!! So basically, I want to troubleshoot the case and see what the exact problem is.

Any ideas what I should check or do? I was thinking maybe flushing the heater core might help...Please give me your opinions on what I should do. Thank you for your time and assistance.

first thing to do is feel the heater hoses after running for a while for heat, if they are hot, then the heater core should be hot too right? if they are not hot then the problem could be a thermostat, could have that stupid little vaccuum heater switch thing like my explorer does, shuts off the flow to the heater core for some ungodly reason. if it's a 4.0L i'm betting it's the thermostat.

If the heater hoses (both hoses) are hot after the engine warms up and the heater is not blowing hot air, then I would focus on the dampers in the heater box. With the truck running, move the temperature control knob from hot to cold. Listen for the damper (door, flapper, whatever) it should move. This damper controls the air flow either around or through the heater core. If this damper is not moving I would find out why. I have a 1988 Ranger and the damper moves with a cable that is attached to the temperature control knob. The newer Rangers may use a vaccum controller or an electric controller, not sure. Hope this helps some.

I had this problem a few months ago and I found out it was the blend door was broken. :uhoh: It took about 40 minutes to fix after I read this. (http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=24962) :biggrin: It seems this is a very common problem.
