twin turbo on honda?dboi1107 01-20-2004, 07:09 PM here are some questions i cant find a answer to.. do any of you know it? well why is it so hard to turbo b series engines? what makes it hard to turbo cars in general? if you can turbo a integra shouldnt i be able to twin turbo some b seris engines? whats the difference between a ECU , FMU , Stand alone, Race Chip, and piggy back computers? thanks PunkAlex 01-20-2004, 07:32 PM Why is it so hard to turbo b series? It depends on the motor....a lot of the b series motors have high compression ratios...but the teggy LS b18a/b has a rather low compression ratio, which is why its commonly turboed...another factor is pricing...these engines werent designed to be turboed, so there are flaws a turbo setup i.e. internals Why is it hard to turbo in general? Its not really...its moreso pricing than anything else...you could turbo a damn chevy chevette! Custom manifolds, piping and all that other good stuff comes at a price you know Twin turbo on a B-series? Its possible but 99.682% of the time its not feasable...the only way it could be efficient is if they were tinnny little turbos and you did em sequentially (smaller one for early spool up then a larger one for high top end boost). But its not worth it most of the time unless youre doing it for show. Vocabulary time ECU:electronic control unit-your engines brain. IT controls fuel, emissions, timing and most of the electric stuff in your engine FMU: hmmm not sure i think it has to do wiht your fuel system as in a piggyback type device used to regulate fuel flow and stuff Stand Alone: A ECU replacement where all the stuff that the ecu controls is controlled by yourself or someone who knows who they are doing...helps a ton with fuel rich/lean, timing, boost, spark, and other engine goodies Race Chip: Usually an add-on or replacement for your ecu that takes modifies the engines regular programming for race specific output Piggy Backs: Electronic devices that attach onto your ecu (hence the piggyback) and act as the same function as a stand alone...but when you get too many the wiring is cluttered and the interfaces (which most people display somewhere near their dash) get cramped. Piggy backs are great for mild/moderate street engines, but you can only add on but so much pffew dboi1107 01-20-2004, 08:19 PM Why is it so hard to turbo b series? In theory yes...but hope you have a popular motor b/c custom internals can get expensive....and your block in general cant take but so much stress. tibby01 01-20-2004, 11:14 PM FMU- fuel management unit. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
