Recently at the Ft. Lauderdale collection website, I found an Audi R8 for sale. Obviously it didn't mention a price, but this brought up the question fo whether or not this sale was an anomally or whether or no Audi made a quick (maybe five car) production run of the R8 like Porsche and M-B did witht he GT1 and CLK GTR. Anyone out there know what the hell is going on with this?

I've never heard of a road-going R8. Speaking of which, I'm not really sure how Audi homologated such an extreme race car when they currently do not have an ultra-performance sportscar in the lineup, and won't until the LeMans is available. But then, I'm a little in the dark re rules in sports car racing... :)

Actually, I opened a second thread like this on the other cars section a while ago and it turns out that it was one of the 2001 models. No homologation car was made as no homologation car is needed for that class of LM. Also, I forget the chassis number but it's the one that in the pictures looks like it has glow int he dark stickers. Pretty cool though, I'd like to meet the man that buys that and then races it on a private track.

it sounds like one of the champion motorsport r8's. it would also make sense for the car to be for sale in ft. laudferdale as champion is a florida based team. it's probably a 2000/2001 spec r8, maybe even a 2002 spec, as champion is currently campaigning a more recent spec.
