3.2L Rodeo squeal on startup heritage72 01-19-2004, 10:09 AM
I have a 1996 Rodeo 3.2L that is making a loud squeal that sounds like a belt for less than a minute on cold start-up. The squeal progressively gets louder then stops suddenly and it sounds like the engine speeds up slightly. It only does this on cold starts. I have recently had all the V-belts replaced. Please help if you know what could be the problem... amigo-2k 01-19-2004, 11:31 AM Just some idea's: Belt tensor (if you have one), or maybe if you have the ac or defrost on (with the fan on inside when you start) the clutches in the ac compresser may be going out. -Ryan rodeo02 01-19-2004, 12:08 PM heritage- You will need to have the new V-belts re-tightened. This is common after a V-belt replacement since they will stretch a bit as they break in. I don't remember exactly where, but there is an tension adjusting bolt on one of the accessory pullies to take up the slack. Easy fix. This will decrease the drain on the alternator. May stop the squeal until you can tighten the belt. heritage72 01-22-2004, 08:49 AM Solved the problem. All it needed was to tighten the fan/alt belt. Thanks for all the advice. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
