2. Insert existing master key into the ignition.
3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.
5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.

HI All,

I'm new to the forum, just bough a 1999 GS300. I was given 2 keys, one with the remote and another black one with no buttons. The car starts with both the keys but the remote buttons dont work.
I have changed the battery the red light on the remote blinks but nothing happens, which made me think it needs reprogramming. Searching on the forum I came across many different programming techniques such as

Driver door open other locked
insert key
lock/unlok 5 times
close driver door than open again
lock/unlock 5 times
insert key, turn to on and remove the lock should cycle

up till here no problems the doors do lock and unlock once but after that when I press the button on the key nothing happens. Tried it about 10 times so far with different combinations, pressing lock and unlock together, pressing lock, holding down lock and pressing unlock 5 times and so on.

and now I need help of all you experts.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone have a pdf file (or?) they can email me for a 2004 Sequoia, transponder key programming. I have tried all the variations noted in this thread. The "security light", I am assuming, is the "key" light in the dash. I try programming and it just blinks on... and on.... and on...

The seller claims profusely that the key is the correct key, however, it can ONLY be programmed at a dealer (according to him). Before abandoning this key, does anyone have a pdf file they can email to;

kurtayers@earthlink.net

Thank you

I'm also new to AF...

I live in the Toronto region. There is a guy who can 'flash' your ECU for new master keys if required. He has every type of key (toyota, nissan, honda, acura etc) and key fobs as well for unlock/lock/trunk etc depending on the model of car.

I had only a grey 'valet' key and did not want to pay Toyota $1200 for a new ECU and $500 for new keys/fobs.

Hope this helps for those living the GTA area...his rates are good. I was charged $200 for 2 new master keys, full reprogrammed ECU and 1 keyless fob.

His contact is:

My final answer to my 2004 Sequoia key reprogramming was not ebay, not finding the magic internal car process (which does NOT exist for a 2004), rather, find a decent locksmith.

After a LOT of flailing I said screw it and called 4 dealers; $150-280 for EACH key. I called a couple locksmiths who were a bit better. I finally found one who came to my home and programmed TWO (2) new keys for $130.

I would have preferred to have found the magic process for having the vehicle program the keys but I could only stand the pain for so long. Apparently 2001-2002's have a procedure that works but not 2004. Oh well, it's a done deal for me.

Enjoy,

I am new to these forums and one of the myriads of people who regularly search forums for answers but without contributing questions or solutions. However, I was so annoyed at the tactics of Toyota in replacement keys that when I found what worked for my 2001 Sienna, I couldn't help but share it. The instructions were posted earlier:

Programming spare keys: for 1998 to 2002
1.. Copy the cuts of the original working key onto the appropriate
transponder blank.
2.. Enter the car and close all of the doors.
3.. Simultaneously depress and release both the brake and accelerator pedals.
4.. Within five seconds, insert a working pre-programmed key into the ignition cylinder, and turn to the "on" position.
5.. Within fifteen seconds of turning the ignition, depress and release
the accelerator pedal five times for a primary key. (Depress and release four times for a valet key.)
6.. Within twenty seconds, depress and release the brake pedal six times for a primary key. (Depress and release only times for a valet key.)
7.. Turn the ignition to the "off" position and immediately remove the
key.
8.. Within ten seconds of removing the key, insert the new key and turn it to the "on" position.
9.. Within ten seconds, depress and release the accelerator pedal once. The security light will then flash for 60 seconds and then turn off. When the security light stops flashing the programming should be complete.
10.. Start the vehicle to verify that programming was successful.

This worked for me on the second try. Steps 5&6 may be causing problems for others because I think that both steps need to be accomplished in 20 seconds rather than 15 or 20 seconds for each step. Keep trying - it worked for me.

I bought two keys on ebay for $12 each and had them cut for $3 each. The dealer wanted $47 just to program up to three keys. I queried him on how to do it and though he told me they needed a scan tool, he later admited that the tool merely tells them the "pedal-pushing, key in and out" techniques. $47 for them to spend 5 minutes doing something that requires no technical ability.

I recently had to have a whole new key made for my 09 Toyota Camry after dropping it in the snow and unsucessfully looking for it for hours! After paying WAY to much to have a key made and programed, I found my keys. Now I have a fob that will lock and unlock my car but won't start it. I would be very gratefull if I could get in on the email with the PDF file that explains how to program my key.

Thank you in advance!!

I recently purchased a 2005 Sequoia. Dealer only had the valet key. Dealer said there was a problem with the ECM, it could not be reset to accept the new keys. Dealer wants to replace the ECM for $1000. I am looking for suggestions, don't want to give the dealer another $1000 just to get a new key!

I have searched the internet up and down many times for methods on programming the transponder to work with the immobilizer. I have tried many variations of the "pedal dance" and the opening and closing of the doors. I have a master key that works (black head) but cant seem to find a method to program the new key. I was able to successfully program the new key to unlock and lock the doors so it somewhat works. However I just can't program it to start the car. If anyone has a FSM for an 04 lexus es330 that may have this information could you please email it to me at matt_taraska@yahoo.com. I would greatly appreciate it. Also if anyone has any other methods or ideas let me know and I will give them a try as well.

IT WORKED GREAT FOR ME. The two step pedal process worked great. Cheap fix. Didn't want to give the dealer lots of money. Transponder key cost me something like $15.

Thanks for the information.:)

PLEASE HELP!! I have a 99 land cruiser and lost my only chipped key. My car is sitting at a toyota dealership as i type. I have lost my key before and took it to a dealership where i had a friend in parts. He cut me a vallet key to open my doors then cut me a chipped key and programmed it. total time was about an hour. So now, this current dealership is telling me i need a new ecm in order for me to get my car started? I asked them why didn't i need a new ecm last time i lost my key and they said i dont know? I have a feeling they are trying to sell me something i dont need. So my question is do i really need a new ecm in order to get my car started or can they just program a chipped key like they did the first time and send me on my way?
thanks in advance!

if anybody can help please email me: gausman@hotmail.com

Mike, please help.

I have a 2005 Sequoia Limited. I purchased the ebay blank transponder key for around $15. I followed the instructions that have been listed several times (shown below) but with out success. I did notice that my master key has a dot punched on top of the key shaft while the key blank does not have it. A lock smith told me that the dot signifies that the key has the transponder. I am not sure if that is true. I have also seen instructions that reflect the same procedure except that step #6 says to turn the key, but neither work. Would it be possible to send me .pdf with instructions for my vehicle. my email is miguelangelr@hotmail.com Thank you. Again below is the procedure that I found in this thread. Should I try it again. I am also concerned about trying it too many times (more than 4 times) before my CPU locks this feature off).

FOR 2002+
1.Make sure all doors and windows are closed.
2.Insert master key into the ignition cylinder.
3.Cycle the ignition cylinder from ON to OFF 5 times.
4.Open and close the driver side door 6 times.
5.Remove the master key and insert the new duplicate key.
6.DO NOT TURN THE IGNITION CYLINDER ON
7.The new key will be registered after 60 seconds. The THEFT light on the
dashboard will go out, indicating that programming has been completed.
"some 2002 will work using the 1998+ programming."

I have a 05 Sequoia Limited. My wife misplaces the keys often. Is it possible to program more than 1 key for the truck? I have a cut key that will not start the truck. I heard that Toyota makes it much harder in 05. Can anyone send me the sequence for the keys and the remotes for future. Is it as hard as the dealer makes it out to be? I have a 2003 4Runner. I went into the dealer and after being told I needed to schedule an appointment to program an additional key (on another day) and it would take 1.5 hours, I took the part numbers for the keys and left.

Since finding this thread, I have ordered an additional master key and had it cut. I have tried both the 1998-2002 and 2002+ programming methods mentioned above and neither seem to work after multiple attempts. The theft light on the LCD panel above the climate control just keeps blinking.

Suggestions?

Hi there.
I have a 1998 Landcruiser with both black remotes and the grey key, but the remotes no longer work even with new batteries.
According to the dealer, the ECU/ECM needs to be replaced. After reading this forum, I doubt anything the dealer has to say.

My situation: The black remote no longer work. We only use the grey key to open and start the vehicle, but every time we open the doors, the alarm goes on and the only way to turn it off is by inserting the key and turning in to the on position or by turning on the vehicle. While driving the vehicle, the door locks, lock/unlock themselves continuously, especially when pressing the brakes.
Lately, we are having trouble starting the vehicle. While turning the switch, we get absolutely nothing. It will start only after we move the shift up and down a couple of times and press the break pedal a couple of times. Is this an indication that the ECU/ECM needs to be replaced? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Good Evening all.....
Just wanted to share my experience with programming a new key and fob.
2003 Avalon XLS.
The 2003 instructions did NOT WORK. I tried this 5 times.
The 2002 and previous did work on the first try. (Gas pedal and brake method).

The fob was also accomplished using the insert key twice, open close door twice, etc.....

Thanks to original poster.
I would say if anyone is having issues with 03, try the older instructions.
Toyota will cut a key (bought on eBay) for free, just give the vin number for a more accurate cut versus trying to trace a worn out key.

Good luck to all.

I need to replace the Anti-theft ECU on a 99 Avalon, which is separate from the ECU main computer. I think the transponder data is stored in the ECU, not the anti-theft ECU on this model.

Am I correct ?

Otherwise, does anyone have a link to where I can find the correct programmer and software for reprogramming the Anti-theft ECU ?

Thanks

I would also like any help / instructions about transponder keys and how to.. I have lost all the keys for my 2001 Toyota Camry GL station wagon. I have had quotes ranging from $650 to $3000 to have it done the lower end by a locksmith that would come to the car and do it on site , the higher end I would have to get the car towed to them . I am very mechanically apt and know I could do it if instructed properly. So if the PDF that is offered to be sent is for my car please send me a copy and any other relevant info for this task. cheers email to fredt140v@gmail.com

Can you please send me a PDF for programming 2003 Toyota squoia without the master key or chip. I've lost it and now I'm running into an issue of finding someone authorized in doing this. Even the local dealer say they aren't autorozed to program the new key and that I'd need to bring the car there for them to do it. A locksmith that Toyota told me they use couldn't do it after they made the key so I could at least open the door, they said they weren't autorized for a 2003. I'm hoping the PDF will show me how to do it myself, the dealer is saying they will have to replace the transponder at the tune of $1500.! Unbelievable! This model is the limited and everything that's ever needed to done on it has turned into and ordeal. It's so fustrating. Please help
