I Have A 1.8 Rt 97 Pre Facelift.i Started The Car Yesterday Morning To Clear Frost.i Didnt Want To Leave Car Open So I Tried To Lock Doors With Spare Remote, but The Locks Did Not Lock. I Thought No More Of It And Drove To Work As Normal. When I Went To The Car At The End Of The Day It Unlocked Ok But It Would Not Start.there Was Nothing No Click Or Anything.all The Warning Lights Were There Everything Worked And The Fuel Pump Relay Was Really Eratic, Clicking Constantly I Checked The Battery And It Is Ok. I seem to be having the same problem as yourself at present. Unfortunatley i went to all the expense of changing the starter motor only to find out this was not the problem. I got a friend to tow start me and this seemed to cure it for about a month but the problem has returned. I am now totally bamboozled by it. Every else seems OK when it was running, it ran fine.
Can anyone point us in the right direction I have heard that damp/condensation can sometimes get into the ECU, or is it an immobilsor problem.

hope someone can help us

Renault Laguna – Key/Immobiliser Reset Procedure

Things to have:
· The keys
· The Code for your Particular car (Renault can provide) eg. 8422
· The Car ( J )

Step 1
Turn the ignition on to illuminate the console warning lights.
Step 2
Using the interior central locking button, press and hold until the small led flashes…
i.e. if your code is 8 4 2 2 you will press firstly until it flashes 8 times then 4 times etc.. until the full code is entered.
Step 3
With the key removed, push and hold the button for a few seconds, the doors will cycle this sets the decoder in the footwell.
Step 4
Finally, aim 1 or both keys at the sensor, near the mirror, push several times to set the keys.
Step 5
Hopefully barring errors, enjoy your happy moments of opening and closing doors while getting the car to start. J

In emergencies there is a code that can be entered, this code will allow the car to be started and driven for approximately 10 mins… I will be honest I don’t know if this is the same for every Laguna but my code is 1313.

The emergency code can at least get you to the local Renault dealers where they can tune the keys properly.

Last year I had the immobiliser problem and when I asked the Renault dealership for the code for future reerence they insisted that it was illegal for them to give me the code, ridiculous I know. Does anyone know if there is an address I can write to in order to get this information.

Hi, I have a 1998 Renault Laguna RXE auto, the engine is turning over but the thing won't fire. I've had a mobile tuning bod visit on 2 occasions and after extensive testing he seems to think that the ECU is knackered. The immobiliser is acting normally. When the ignition is turned on I get no engine fault light (the bulb has been tested-ok) and the fuel pump is continually running. I've got a live feed form battery and ignition but no supply to coil packs or injectors. Can anybody help with sourcing a new ECU, or help with my problem?

Yea its a known problem that the flywheel sensor can weaken. Dead easy to replace. A 6'' extensio and 10mmsocket removes it from above th flywheel housing close-up to the engine. (Mine is 1.6 manual laguna 1 2000)

Let me know if this helps

Does the car start when you bump start it? If it does the problem could be the actual starter motor! It sends out interference during cranking, which is picked up by the TDC sensor! This in turn sends the wrong signal to the ECU which can't understand it, which results in non start!! Hope this helps!!
