cutting rubber stop to lower..........jordaddy 01-08-2004, 08:16 PM alrighty, I am getting tired of depending on other people to work on my car. see I got a set of lowering coil overs and I have to cut something called the rubber stop in order for them to lower my car with the stock shocks. help me! I have no clue what it is! jordaddy 01-08-2004, 09:45 PM let me clear it up a little, I want to lower my dodge noen 2000 myself, it curently has stalk shocks and stalk springs on it. I got some coil overs realy cheap from ebay, I think they are pro-exhaust, here is a picture, check it out. they fit, but i have to cut something what I think is called the ruber stop (I could be wrong) on my shocks to get my car lower. that is waht people tell me, but for some reason they can't explain to me what it is, I'm sure someone on this forum has an idea or a picture or instructions or a websight or something to give me an idea..............anything would be helpfull. how so I acopmlish this task? jordaddy 01-08-2004, 09:47 PM oops! forgot the missing link...........http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/398228 a1supersport 01-09-2004, 06:37 AM I just replaced my front springs with a set of adjustable coil-overs like yours. Some of the problems you'll run into: The threaded part of the adjuster is supposed to sit on a flat surface...there is no flat surface on the stock shock. I had to take a piece of "black pipe" that fit right over the shock and cut one side of it at a 60 degree angle or so, and tack weld it in place, to create a flat surface for the adjuster to sit on. The best thing to do is to purchase a new set of shocks for the front...or at least look at a replacement set, then you'll see what I mean. Now, even though they give you some small set screws to hold the adjustment sleeve in place, I wouldn't depend on those set screws to hold that adjuster in place...that adjuster will be carrying the weight of the car. Also, on your springs there should be a sticker with a number on it, probably "450" on the front springs, and "350" on the rears, which is what I had on my springs. I'm assuming that means "450 pounds per inch". Which would total 900 for the front springs (put 900 pounds on the 2 springs, and they'll compress down an inch). If I hit a good bump too quickly, the spring coils "bottom out"...the coils compress completely, momentarily...and makes a loud thump. Also, those flat rubber rings that come with the springs...leave those off. Those things squeak when it gets a little wet, even if you put grease on it. They'll also stretch, and would end up doing nothing, but squeak. All I do is put grease at the top and bottom of the spring. So I ended up buying new front shocks and and setting up the black pipe and new springs on it, so I wouldn't have to park the car and try to figure it out. The only "rubber" stop I could think of was a stopper (which isn't really rubber) on the shock itself...but it hardly did anything. It's soft enough that you can compress it in your hand...but I did leave those out anyway. The first time I dropped the car, I had cut the original springs. Since no one really had adjustable coil-overs for these cars back then, I did it that way (about 3 years ago) and it worked ok...I just wanted to do it right this time. I did see your pictures :). If I had a few hundred bucks more to spend, I would have just bought the whole aftermarket coil-over/shock set-up. It would have been a lot easier, and I probably would have a better ride (the ride I have now is fairly stiff). Maybe you should think about doing that before you install these...at least you can still sell these on E-bay since you haven't used them yet, and probably get your money back from the sale. jordaddy 01-10-2004, 01:31 PM I don't know about selling them because the back ones have been one for about two weeks, and as far as money goes, I'm probly more broke than anyone here.
