I was having problems with the passlock as many others have been having as well. I took the ignition cylinder out and took it apart. To remove the ignition cylinder you have to press in on a pin that is on the back of the ignition cylinder with the key in and turn it and pull and it will pull out. To take the cylinder apart you all you have to do is line up the end with the groove on the inside of the cylinder, the part the key is in, with the channel on the outside of the cylinder and depress the part with a paperclip and slide it apart. There are a few small pieces and springs so be careful!! Now you just have to clean the contacts and reassemble it. That little cleaning saved my at least $300. I hope that this helps some with their problem!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may even try just cleaning it with carb cleaner and turning it without taking it apart and then blowing it out with air. I had not thought about that but looking back I think it shouldwork as well. TO lubricate it use graphite powder and your hopefully up and running.

I can see how that might work if the problem is in the lock cylinder. I believe that my cylinder has been replaced, so my problem might lie in the Instrument cluster.

I found out simple way to disable the passlock1 prmanently. I did it on my Cavalier 96 and it works so far.
You can use it if ocasionally you are still able to start your car. All you need to do is to start the car (with your semidefective passlock sensor), and then disconnect the three wires plug (wires that run from the lock cylinder to the instrument panel) from the instrument panel while engine is running.
Engine will start the next time without any passlock "authorization", but "theft system'" light will stay on. If you do not like it, you can remove LED from the instrument cluster board.
I am not shure if the disablement will work after battery gets disconnected. Possible, that you may repeat it all over.

Hello..I have a 2002 Malibu, I removed the plastic bezals, radio and removed 2 bolts on the ignition. It was hell removing the 2 plugs and cable from the ignition, so I went after the 3 wires on top knowing they were for the passlock. I clipped all 3, engine off, key out. Passlock was activated so fuel was cut off. Tested wires..Black-ground, white and yellow I can't remember but one was charged 12 volt..the other was the receiver wire. I took the 2 black ends and added a solid ground to them and wire nutted them together. so they would be sticking out next to the radio when installed. I bundled the 2 yellow ends with the 2 white ends together and also wire nutted them so they would come out next to the radio. Installed tyhe bezals. If nec the big bezal pops right off and the wires can be put back as original easily. The car immediately started. I believe this is the proper way. The trouble light is on but it may go out when the code is removed at the auto parts store (Oreilly). Some newer cars won't remove codes when disconnecting the battery. It's been a week now without any problems. Please add input if you find something out..I will. Bob

yes..I did disconnect the battery for a while and it started fine afterwards.
