I am at a loss, My 96 s-10 with 97,000 miles will die on me while I'm driving, sometimes I can put in netrual an restart it, then other times
it will just crank and not start. Sometimes I can drive it for 20 min, shut if off, come back in 5 or 10 min and it will just crank and not start. I can wait 5 min and it will start. I had a new fuel pump and filter installed in june of 02' and I just replaced the ign mod thinking that might be the problem but it still dies. I let the dealer have it for 2 days and the could find nothing wrong, no codes no nothing, I have it a a nother dealer now and they are getting the same thing - nothing. Does anyone know or have any idea what is going on?

Have you had any luck finding the problem? we have a 96 2.2L with similar symptoms. We are trying to find a root cause of this problem as it seems to be a common problem in S10's.

Post your fix if you have one. We will do the same. Thanks!

well....i had kinda the same problem. I bought a 94 s10 4x4 with the 4.3 vortec....and after a few weeks the rpms started to drop when i was slowing, like the idle control valve was clogged, which caused it to die a few times on me. I replaced that and it ran fine after that, but yours might be altogether different. does it just DIE, like with accelration? or when it hits low rpm's? if it does it intermittanly around low rpms, take your egr valve off and check it, clean it and or replace it. i've done both the idle and egr valves, and the truck runs fine now. your on the right track with the module, but check those valves if the truck just seems to idle down way too low and die.

I have a 2000 S10 with the 2.2 engine. I have the same exact problem that you are discribing. It turned out to be clogged injectors, bad gas in the tank, and I need a new clutch safety switch. Now my truck runs like new again.

I have the same prob on my 98 2.2 its not the control modual or the coil packs. Ive also changed the fule filter. Ive been told it could be the oil pressure sending switch try that out and see what happens.

I really think this has got to have a common source because of all the S10 owners having this problem.

I really appreciate the posts as we are starting to get to the bottom of it.

Possible fixes:
1- Oil Pressure Switch
2- Wiring on the fuel pump
3- Coil pack/ECM
4- Fuel Pump
5- Fuseable Links
6- Ignition Switch
7- Crank Trigger
8- Injectors
9- Fuel Filter (good call on this! Causes strange problems on an EFI engine)
10- Bad gas
11- Clutch safety switch
12- Low oil pressure
13- Fuel pressure
14- Possibly other electrical problems that deal with Relays/ignition, etc.

I'd like to see a schematic of the electrical wiring as it deals with ignition and fuel delivery.
