I have a 99 Intrique with a 3.8 liter engine with 90k miles. I have recently been noticing engine hesitation and my check engine light comes on. I have replaced the fuel filter and the PCV valve and the check engine light turned off. This seem to help for a week yet I am beginning to experience the same problem.
Any advise?

I don't have a solution for you, but a question. Where exactly is the PCV located on the 3.8. I assume it is on the rear of the engine toward the firewall, but cannot locate. I've changed it on other GM engines but can not locate.

Have you considered having you injectors cleaned? Either the do-it-yourself gumout method or professionally?

Good Luck! Bob.

First off, the "check engine light" can indicate and point you towards your solution and how to to fix your problem. Even if the light has only came on for a bit, and dosen't show up again, your cars PCM will have a Code Histroy that can be retrived with a suitable Scanner.

In most cases of vehicals with a "hesitation" problem (that be of, hard starting and hesitation of accelerator responce) can be a Carbon build up in the upper intake plenum, injectors, and/or plugged EGR Valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculating Valve). I would suggest a good cleaning with a "motor vac" machine after you have fixed any problems found from the PCM's history Codes.
