...just want to ask if anyone had a hard time getting all the air purged out of the power steering fluid. Seems to be a pain. I flushed the system after the rack install and followed instructions from Cardone about purging the air. Still have air. Read other sources that it will take time (days) before all the air works it way out of the system. Does this sound right?

I got this from my 1991-1995 ford explorer v6 4.0 Automotive Repair Manual, I hope it can be of some help to you, peace

POWER STEERING SYSTEM BLEEDING

1. The power steering system must be bled whenever a line is disconnected. Bubbles can be seen in power steering fluid which has air in it and fluid will often haf a tan or milky appearance. on Later models, low fluid level can cause air to mix with the fluid, resulting in a anoisy pump as well as foaming of the fluid.

2. Open the hood and check the fluid level in the reservoir, adding the specified fluid necessary to bring it up to the proper level

3. Start the engine and slowly turn the steering wheel several times from left-to-right and back again. Do not turn the wheel completely from lock-to-lock. Check the fluid level, topping it up as necessary until it remains steady and no more bubbles are visible.

Thanks KATAZ...the whine is alot less now. Now only get a slight whine when the engine reaches 2000 rpm and above then goes away when below this rpm. Not sure why this happens but hope it is because there is still a little air in the system and goes away over time. Will have to see.
Thanks again
Casey
