ignition switch won't turn at all

Hi,

I live in Mexico, a friend left for 8 months and when he went to start his garaged 1999 Ford Ranger 4 wheel drive truck he had to pop the hood to rehook up the battery. The hood latch would not work so I crawled under it and flipped the latch with a screwdriver to get it open.

We hooked up the battery but now the ignition switch won't turn. We sprayed some WD-40 in there, turned the key over, jiggled the steering wheel all with no results. I have seen switches that are corroded before and this one does not feel like that is the problem.

There is an indicator on the dash flashing a red "theft". we flipped the little hidden switch under the dash, then disconnected the battery for a while, nothing seems to work with the exception that the hood latch is now working fine.

I know about the passive theft system but I don't know if that would prevent the key from turning as part of the anti theft.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Sincerely,

Daniel Hallas

You've got an intresting problem on your hands... Something could be jammed in the ignition, could be something soo small you wouldn't see it, and it will keep you from being able to start the truck. Your going to want to call Ford and tell them about the problem, because the truck sat for so long without moving alot of things arn't gonna want to move, and ford can give you better tips to help you on your way
