Buying a 95-96 VR6. I need opinions. 89redcorvette 01-01-2004, 12:07 PM
Hey guys I want to buy a 95-96 GLX Jetta and I was wondering what your opinions were on this. I have done some research and 95 and 96 seem like the years that have the least maintenance problems. Also I most likely going to buy my car stock so I can do the mods. I might be able to get this car for under 5k so I was thinking to maybe buy the turbo kit they have out. I want this to be an everyday driver but still be able to jet around when I want. Also what should I do to the suspension ? Also I'm going to put a huge system in, probaly 2 Audiobahn 12's in the trunk. This is going to be my first car and I dont know much about imports, I actually wanted a 71 Camaro but I couldn't drive it every day because it's a classic car. I am getting more into imports though but I'm not trying to make this car rice looking, I want it to be more like a sleeper. I dont like when people just put a body kit on their car and a muffler and think they are some street racer. Tell me what you guys think. Hey I just found this turbo kit : http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-VVW-112&Category_Code=VVWTK What do you guys think ? 250hp for a daily driver seems really good, I think 300hp at stage 2 is pushing it a little too much. I dont want to have to take this in to get fixed every month. teenie 01-02-2004, 03:43 PM While I know nothing about the project you're going to undertake, I just wanted to 2nd your opinion about the 95's & 96's having less mechanical malfunctions than the more recent ones. It's unfortunate the VW's quality has gone down so much after '96 'cause they do make neat lookin' cars, and have a great reputation. I hope by the time my '96 dies they'll have gotten their stuff together & started making quality, dependable cars again-without all the electrical problems ;) Spartan_1 10-06-2005, 02:27 PM If you are interested, I am currently selling my 1996 Jetta GLX.
