160 deg. thermostat in the winter chuck'sZ 12-30-2003, 04:59 AM
I have a 94 z28 with the lt1. My question is would it be alright to drive the car with a 160 degree thermostat in it during the winter without messing anything up? 1992RS 12-30-2003, 10:28 AM It's not gonna hurt anything. Just as long as you have some good anit freeze. It don't matter how cold it is outside, normal operating temps will always be reached. And the lower stat isn't going to effect cold starts or warming up. Wait that would be a good idea to put it in a carton and sell your milk oil. Im gonna be rich! pawn 01-11-2004, 01:18 PM make sure you dont get your temps too cold, your oil will be milky. It actually might cause you to run slightly richer. I wouldn't really recommend it. pawn 01-11-2004, 01:59 PM What is your reasoning for running a 160* stat? BigJustinZ28 01-11-2004, 04:21 PM I have a 160 in my 97 and I havent had any probs with the cold . It still warms up and the heat is still hot. It doesnt stay at 160 anyways. more around like 175 or 180 when cruising. The 160 really kicks in the summer tho , car runs nice and cool. Just do yourself a favor and dont start beating on the car till its nice and warmed up , nomatter what time of year it is. Thats when you break things pawn 01-11-2004, 04:44 PM Just do yourself a favor and dont start beating on the car till its nice and warmed up , nomatter what time of year it is.
