The Official Porsche 911 Carrera Progress report Thread.CRX_SOON 12-20-2001, 08:47 PM When ever i do a stage of my first car i will post what i did here so you guys can keep track of me and if need be point me in the right direction. Anyway lets kick it off I just got done getting rid of the mold lines. I picked up a file and a pack of testors sanding paper. I filed off as much of the plastic i could without messing up the lines of the car, i then spent a good while with 600 grit sandpaper taking the rest of it off. The hood section was no problem but the back bumper section was somewhat of a challenge. In any case i got them all off and didn't mess up the panel lines. :D thats all for now. I will be picking up the primer and body color (Chrome Yellow) in the next couple days along with the major parts colors. Yes. :) CRX_SOON 12-21-2001, 01:22 AM geee thanx for the consise answer primera man 12-21-2001, 07:28 PM Sand it again with 1200 grit paper. 600 will leave scratch makes in the body even after primming and painting CRX_SOON 12-22-2001, 12:06 AM i can't find anything finer than 600 my hobby stores don't have it!!!! can you beleive that  Jay were do you find the really fine grit papers? Jay! 12-22-2001, 12:11 AM I bought them all together in a polishing kit. It was $22 for 8 sanding cloths (1800-12000 grit), a 3-way nail file, a foam block and a foam pad (to shape the cloths), a polishing cloth (plain cotton  ) and some polishing goo I haven't used yet. Your local automotive shop/store will have a varaity of wet/dry sanding papers available for a really good price. That's where I got my 1000 and 2000 grit paper from. primera man 12-22-2001, 07:29 PM I buy all mine from the local hardware store. They have plenty to pick from. When buying some get wet-n-dry and sand the model using water. I find its a lot better then sanding it dry. CRX_SOON 12-22-2001, 07:56 PM so i should sand it under running water?? hot or cold? I will take a look at home depo and see if they have it. ales 12-23-2001, 03:07 AM I would suggest not running water, but fill some vessel with water (rather warm, almost hot, but not quite) and add some dishwashing liquid. primera man 12-23-2001, 05:41 AM Originally posted by CRX_SOON so i should sand it under running water?? hot or cold? I will take a look at home depo and see if they have it. I sand the body under a luke-warm water and so it's just a small amount coming out. Just enough to keep to keep the area your doing nice and wet. After sanding the whole car and your happy with it, wash it in hot soapy water then wash it again with just hot water from the tap, wiping over the whole body with a nice soft cloth. Allow a good 3-4 hours to let the car dry off in all the little gaps etc before primming CRX_SOON 12-24-2001, 06:13 PM Update: I picked up most of the interior color paints(x18,xf16,x11,x10,x26) today along with the Primer (white) and the body color (Chrome Yellow or TS-47). also got two brushs one pointy and one kinda flat (not those testor POS) and an exacto knife. So i am almost on my way all i need now is the rest of the paints that they were out of and the super fine sand papers so i can start on the body. :D i am so excited!!! oh and after i get done with my Carrera i plan to really jump into it hip deap and buy this http://www.hlj.com/images/tam/tam10001box.gif :D primera man 12-25-2001, 04:37 AM Originally posted by CRX_SOON oh and after i get done with my Carrera i plan to really jump into it hip deap and buy this http://www.hlj.com/images/tam/tam10001box.gif :D That well test you.:D I haven't seen that kit around for ages CRX_SOON 12-25-2001, 04:54 AM Originally posted by primera man That well test you.:D I haven't seen that kit around for ages i saw it at Hobby People in Escondido when i went there to check out there selection and i was like hey awsome a full detail race car without 6 million decals!!!! CRX_SOON 01-05-2002, 03:18 PM the first coat of primer just went on! man i just stood there for like a minute before i could push that nozzle down hardest thing was that first spray. Same thing when i started painting the parts, i had to force myself to put brush to part but after that it was all good :D I now smell like spray paint  damn wind!! JE123 01-05-2002, 04:06 PM The wind will do it to you every time. One time when I was using blue spray paint, I went into the house afterwards to blow my nose. Lets just say that some of the paint mist went into my nose. CRX_SOON 01-05-2002, 04:21 PM Originally posted by JE123 The wind will do it to you every time. What the hell it must do to your lungs! primera man 01-06-2002, 06:07 AM Originally posted by Guiddy I have sprayed cars, looked in the mirror, and all the hairs in my nose have turned the colour of the model! LOL....No comment :D CRX_SOON 01-10-2002, 05:20 PM I just put the first coat of chrome yellow on the car and it turned out cool BUT i then tryed to spray the pop up spoiler and i screwed up BIG TIME!! I sprayed to much and it kinda got stuck inbetween the really small fins. i panicked and picked it up and tryed to get the paint out before it hardened so now it looks like total ASS i amm probly gonna have to pick up a small bottle of that paint stripper and then reprimer it and then repaint it  But the body looks sweet as hell!!! just a little bit of orange peel on the first coat.
