I'm looking for informed opinions.....I'm trying to decide between a Mercedes ('96 C220 or '97 C230) and a BMW ('97 or '98 318i). I've heard from dealers that the BMW 4-cylinder isn't much good. I've also heard that the only colors to get in a Mercedes are black, white, or grey or they won't hold their value? Any thoughts on those two questions? Any general opinions, good or bad, on the 4 cars mentioned above?? I appreciate any constructive input. Thanks!

I own a 95 318i and live in Germany. The only reason the dealers tell you that 4 cylinder BMWs are bad is because they can get more $$ out of you from the sixers. I've driven enough on the german Autobahn to know that an endurance race between a 318i (4 cylinder) will blow the doors off of any american 6 cylinder on the Autobahn. I've held for at least 20 klicks topspeed on it. No leaks, the engine is still strong w/ regular maintenance of course. Try that on a GrandAm.

As somone has already said, that's bull. I havent driven a 318 but i do know that the 318is engine is strong and extremely reliable.

Thats pretty much true for a host of cars, including BMW, Audi, and pretty much all exec's although i am certain a white car would NOT hold its value. Its generally black, dark blue, silver, and even dark red and dark green on some cars. Generally the first 3 are the most advisable

The BMW Headquarters building is four cylinders. This speaks of the greatness of these motors. Go with the BMW.
