Installed short shifter...problems!T!mmy 12-28-2003, 06:27 PM Ok I installed a short shifter and now it seems like going into gears is harder. It's like you have to push that much harder to get it into a gear. ANy help? thanks in advance Brian pisetup 12-28-2003, 07:53 PM Are you using aftermarket bushings? T!mmy 12-28-2003, 08:31 PM no... 99civic03 12-28-2003, 09:14 PM You NEED bushings! It will make shifting 1000x smoother, get some! T!mmy 12-28-2003, 09:35 PM Where is a place that has good ones? thanks pisetup 12-28-2003, 09:37 PM eBay - Neuspeed bushings T!mmy 12-28-2003, 09:44 PM T!mmy 12-28-2003, 09:48 PM liek that? T!mmy 12-28-2003, 10:31 PM ok I went to the car to try and describe how it is better...whenever I push the shift lever forward it seems like something is too tight. It's just harder than it should be...it goes into gear fine it just feels tight. What do ya'll think? BullShifter 12-28-2003, 10:44 PM Did you follow the install directions? You have have over tightened, not greased, forgot a piece. Go back & check your work. Summit Racing has the stabilizer bushings for $10(energy suspension) they should be used with a short shifter, but won't solve your issue. Which shifter is it? T!mmy 12-28-2003, 10:53 PM I didn't have instructions...I bought it from Kicker1_solo...do you have a set of standard instructinos on how much to tighten them? BullShifter 12-28-2003, 10:57 PM T!mmy 12-28-2003, 11:04 PM yea that's the one I followed but it doesn't tell me how much to tighten the bolt that the actual shift lever connects to don't know if thats the right lingo but by shift lever I mean the part the knob connects to thanks T!mmy 12-28-2003, 11:07 PM ahh I see it...it says 16lb ft T!mmy 12-30-2003, 04:54 PM k one more question about my install it's rubbing the top of my exhaust and I was going to just bend it down but since it was on the rubber hangars and all that it gave. How should I go about stopping the rubbing or bending the pipe/heatshield? C'mon Ricochet help me out :D lol thanks T!mmy 12-30-2003, 05:43 PM Ricochet...hellllooo? lol anyone for that matter knorwj 12-30-2003, 06:18 PM mine rubbed on the heat sheild also, I think it is unavoidable. I just cut the heat sheild off right behind the shifter. As an added bonus the exhaust pipe warms up my shift knob:iceslolan (cold steel shift knob and 10 degree weather NOT fun). T!mmy 12-31-2003, 10:01 AM lol "Automatic Shift Knob warmer..." I could see us making some money in that lol Ricochet 12-31-2003, 01:39 PM post pics.. T!mmy 12-31-2003, 02:42 PM you've got to be shitting me...post pics? all it's doin is rubbin on the heat shield on the exhaust. And rattles when in neutral and the car is running. Ricochet 12-31-2003, 02:45 PM Take off the heat shield.. What brand short shifter is it? T!mmy 12-31-2003, 03:10 PM that no brander that I bought from kicker1_solo T!mmy 12-31-2003, 03:14 PM BTW the heat shield is welded on BullShifter 12-31-2003, 04:52 PM Whats rubbing, shifter, shift rod, etc? If it's the little nub(balance) on the shifter rod, then you trim/cut that off. Otherwise just bend the shit out of the way - shifter is way more important than exhaust. T!mmy 12-31-2003, 05:12 PM I believe it is the little balancer...lol it's kind of looks like a wagging tail. when you move the shifter left to right it moves too lol maybe ya'll will understand ;) thanks BullShifter 12-31-2003, 05:26 PM http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid96/pcfc358d2f1571ef475a26f968443cf73/fa1fac93.jpg There does that help? If it's the part(piece hanging down) circled in red, then you can chop it off or trim. . . Not the whole rod, just the piece hanging off. closer view http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid95/pe1c6dbe0c7e5510c198f0941312ce96e/fa1fa489.jpg JDM00CivicEX 12-31-2003, 07:50 PM I put my shifter in and it did the same thing, so i took it to a muffler shop they bent the pipe down so the shifter doesnt hit the piping. And now my shifter works smooth. T!mmy 01-01-2004, 01:06 PM Can they bend it without taking it off? Sorry for my ignorance? T!mmy 01-02-2004, 12:27 AM Anyone? I guess I'll jsut call a local muffler shop tomorrow. thanks guys NOBU-SAN 01-02-2004, 01:49 PM WAIT!!! I just called a shop, being that I'm having the same issue. They told me most auto parts places, custom or not, have replacement hangers for the exhaust. It will lower it just enough to clear the exhaust. Good luck Nobu T!mmy 01-02-2004, 02:11 PM hrmm I'm calling them right now T!mmy 01-02-2004, 02:13 PM yea he said it's possible but "I just have to bring it by for him to look at" damn lol JDM00CivicEX 01-02-2004, 06:13 PM All they have to do is pull the hangers for the piping.
