Hey guys, just wondering how I can get more electrical power in my car. When I turn on my turn signal, my revs drop about 100 rpm and back up, on and off with the signals, and I can hear my fuel pump lowering too with it, on and off. When I turn my headlights/fogs on the revs drop too, then slowly back up, along with turning on anything else like the stereo, heater etc.. Would a grounding kit fix/help this? Bigger battery or something? I'm looking to buy a grounding kit anyways, but will probably think twice if it won't do anything.

the ground kit might help you out some, but have you considered running either a bigger alt, or even two batteries, one for your car stuff and another stand alone for like your fog's, and stereo.

It's not a big enough problem where I'd buy another battery and a new alternator. Maybe it's just that my battery needs replaced because I'm pretty sure it's the same one since I bought the car in early 2000. It still read 12V though, but a new battery since almost 4 years ago def. wouldn't hurt

I would suggest getting an alt test, goto les schwabb or a mechanic shop they have these expensive machines to test batteries and they can hook it up and test your alternator and your battery for free in less than 2 min, its tight I had a prelude with low volts same problem as you I took it there and they tested it. turns out my alternator was going bad very low output, replaced it and fixed the problem...

I'd look at the factory ground wire connection at the block, then look at the positive assembly of wires at battery, your problem is most likely going to be a bad connection at one of these, trying a different, not extra, battery may be a strong suggestion also.

i agree...i got my battery tested at Advanced Auto Parts because i was going through the same problem and it turned out that my battery only had .5 volts in it.

It still would be good to get a grounding kit. Ive heard good things about them.

Hmm, well I'll get a new battery first, then a grounding kit is def. my next mod on the list, and I'll let you know how it turns out in case u guys get the same problem.

Ricochet, are you running heavy wattage through a stereo system by any chance? If you are, I would suggest a capacitor...I know a few people was battery was going to hell early due to the power draw from the stereo...it made everything else work like crap, kind of like you discribed. I know a capacitor solves that problem. Anyways, I know it's unlikely and a long shot, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

BTW, low430, you are from the Portland area, or the oregon/washington area, arn't you? I figured this because you side Les Shwabs. Speaking of which, if you went to HIN in Seattle this year, you would have seen a white prelude in the Les Shwab booth, with mad ice. I mean, 12 tv's in the car/trunk, including a plasma screen in the trunk, to name some of the things. That's my buddy's car, used to own a shop up there. He is sponsored by toyo tires, so his car is in the Les Shwab booth at a lot of shows.

Anyway's, sorry Ricochet. I'm not trying to Hijack your thread here...lol

I've got a 500 watt amp powering one 12" sub... :) Maybe I'll go buy a capacitor today for shits and giggles.

make sure your grounds are tight, and clean any corrision off the battery cables too

get the Sun Hyperground Grounding system. i got it on my WRX and had it on my 99 Accord. Import Tuners dyno results showed it actually made more power.
