Im planing on replacing the 283ci. motor in a 64 Wagon with a 350Ci. The problem im having is the Owner wants to keep the 3 on the tree. Is there a place to pick up the bracket for the shifter/clutch linkage to convert to the 350ci.? This is the only thing holding the 350 install back. Thanks!

It should bolt up. The bracket that bolts to the engine probably has 2 bolts holding it on, and some later small blocks only have one bolt hole...is this the problem you're having?

I have not yanked the 283 as of yet. Im told the clutch assy will not line up with the 350 clutch ball mount (one hole). Is it a bracket on the 283? Does anybody make a kit if needed? The 283 is coming out on Sun.

Hmmm...if your 350 only has one hole, but you need 2 to bolt up the bracket, you may have a problem. Does the 350 even have the embossment for the front bracket bolt, that can be drilled out? If not, and you're willing to do some fabrication, it still would be possible. You could make a "bracket" that comes down from the head bolts, making sure it mates up with the original bracket. Otherwise you may be out of luck.

Yeah, I figured I'd need to Fabricate something up. It should not be to hard seeing that Im a fabricator myself. Thanks for th help.

I'm assuming you'll be re-using the 283 oil pan/pump/pickup? You may have a problem with clearance between the oil filter and the power steering ram/linkage on the 350. Early Nova 283/327 engines were made slightly different in the oil filter area. That's another thing you may want to check on before doing the swap...or you may have to "scrap" the power steering (if the car has power steering)

I think that's about it :)...good luck on the swap.

A remote oil filter would be a better alternative than scrapping the power steering I would think.

I've done it on a couple of 67 Nova's, and it's not much harder to drive without power steering. The steering ratios in these steering boxes make it easy to turn even without power assist.

On the oil filter, AC Delco now has an even shorter oil filter. AC PF 454. Shortyer than the standard short filter.
