Water Pump replacement

I have a 91 G20 and have to replace the water pump. Does the engine need to be dropped in order to remove the old water pump? I can not see clearly how to remove the old pump once I remove the mounting bolts.

Remove the motor mount and the rest of the water pump becomes fairly open to removal. Be prepared to jack up the motor too, in order to make things a little easier.

You may have to remove the four bolts on the water pump pulley. And be prepared to fight with the belt tensioner when you want to put the belt back on.

Thanks for the tips. I followed you steps exactly when I did the water pump about a year ago and it worked just fine.

The only additional information I have, is that I bought an extention to my 1/4 inch drive from Sears that was just the right length to work all the water pump bolts. The extension I had was too long and working the ratchet without and extension was not doable for all bolts. It was worth the money to get the right extension. I do not remember what length I bought, but will update this post when I dig out and measure it.
