I'm thinking about buying a 96 240sx. The only thing is its a auto. Would you (A) stick with the cheaper vehicle with the auto and convert it to a five speed. Or (B) just find a 240sx with a five speed that is higher in price? Would the time and money be worth the swap? :screwy:

Ok, the reason i'm asking is because i'm on a 5 grand budget. I found a hell good deal on a 96 with low miles. I was all pumped to buy it and swap in a 5 speed until I talked to my friend who said it was very hard and complicated to switch it. He has done an manual to a auto swap. But he thinks it would cost way to much and take a long time. I'm tryin to stay optomistic in gettin a 5 speed 240 with low miles for around 5G's.
The only way to do that for me is to buy an auto car and switch to a 5.

how many miles on auto? how much? condition?

basically its all time, and if you have mor epeople it should be pretty easy....basically bolting in things...

(well tranny is not really bolting in)

but if i were u i would still wait till something pops up

The 96 240 has only 48,000 miles on it. Also it is white (the color I want) Even better it is only 5 Grand. And it has ABS(good thing for me). How much do you think a 5 speed swap would cost anyway? I'm thinking under $1000. I know I could do this because I have the tools and some of the knowledge.

if you do it yourself it won't....get a wrecked s13 manual and it will have nearly all the parts you need...less than 1k...

yeah if he doesn't do it himself then it's probly 1500+...maybe 2000+...though a lot of places charge less than 800 if you are already getting a swap done by them...so that's at least some incentive for less mechanically inclined tuners

Just one more question on this topic. What do you rate the tranny swap as. (1 - 10). (1) Changin oil, (10) Dropping a RB25 in a 240?
I know it kinda souns funny but I need a confidence builder.
Basically Easy or Hard?

if you dont know what youre doing, then i rate it 1000000000000000

if you have the right tools, an fsm and somehow mechanically inclined (i dont mean setting the clock on the vcr) then a decent 4-5
