avalon--uses iol--lots!ron42 12-07-2003, 09:18 PM Friends of mine have a 96-98(?) avalon, with 79,000 miles. It is using 3 qts of oil every 250 miles. There is no oil on the ground and there is no oil in the anti-freeze. Has there been a problem with the avalons? If not what might it be? Thanks, Ron Big blue truck 12-15-2003, 01:41 AM PCV valve stuck. If not I would say rings/valve seals Inspire 12-15-2003, 03:29 AM if your PCV valve is stuck solid, and you're still driving it around, your vavle train, oil pan and your pistons will be covered with a thick oil like sludge, and your combustion chamber will have a thick carbon buildup. in addition to that, your gasket and valve seals will deteriorate. The PCV system is designed to remove crankcase fumes and pressure from the crankcase. these fumes can cause rapid sludging of the oil and deterioration of rubber parts. a faulty PCV valve can cause all this. if you do find it to be the PCV system, make sure you also have the engine resealed and new valve stem seals installed along with the new PCV valve and hose. :) 2SLOW2FURIOUS 01-06-2004, 01:55 AM Friends of mine have a 96-98(?) avalon, with 79,000 miles. The car died while i was driving and wouldnt start again. I checked the dip stick and there was oil...not much but there was some...is that what killed the engine? There was a previous incident with the same problem when my mom got sidelined also because of oil leakage. Fixed it but they said it wouldnt last long... Whats going on???
