I've been reading these forums for a while now, but this is the first time I've posted... Finally got my car back to running condition and thought I'd share with you guys what I've done with it since there have been so many posts about engine transplants in S13's on here.

I've transplanted a VH41DE into my S13 Silvia as others have probably done before me, and I've put some pictures and video of the half-finished product up *here* (http://members.iinet.net.au/~dcollins/silfiniti)

If anyone is interested in specific technical details feel free to contact me and I'll share what I can, I'm interested in comparing sketchbooks with others who have done the conversion... it's a pretty tight fit as you can see, and it isn't easy so if you're still new to cars I don't recommend trying it, but it is possible. Slapping it together is simple enough, but doing it in a manner that allows the vehicle to be permitted for road use here in West Australia is the hard part... nearly finished :)

Quite interesting.

Did you modify the firewall to set the engine back? I can't tell from your pics.

Did you have any issues with the steering shaft and the exhaust manifold?

Cheers

This is really interesting to hear about. I've heard a lot of people say that the Nissan/Infiniti V8s won't fit because they're DOHC and wider, compared to OHV V8s(ex: Chevrolet LT1), which has actually been done.

I guess maybe a DOHC V8 will fit after all. I'm ready to see a VK45 swapped into a Silvia or a 240SX now. :iceslolan

My original intention was to force it as far back as possible to try and reduce any effect it may have on the handling, yeah... but when I hung it in there on a crane and measured everything, it sat so perfectly where it is now that I didn't bother...

It clears the chassis rails, brake system, steering system (I got a japanese Cima VH41 so their steering column is on the righthand side of the car same as mine) and the cutouts in the sump for the crossmember fit exactly over the Silvia member and steering rack... I could not warrant modifying all of this just to move the engine back a few inches, I'll just put up with whatever it does to the handling and try to tune it out with some coilovers and sway bars, etc. etc.

Not perfect, but hopefully not bad... we shall see.
Just waiting for tailshaft to come back from engineer :)

If you don't mind I'm going to add this as a swap on my website (in my signature)...I'll link to your site...can you make an index page maybe with some brief info about what it took to do the swap and any other info you want to add...

Yeah when I've got the tailshaft in and get some video of it moving I'll build a proper website for it with some specific details to share with people, no problems at all... hopefully will be up in maybe no later than a fortnight :)

That swap is awesome!!!!!!!!
I'm in the middle of doing the same swap to my Navara D/cab, but I think its a tighter fit that the Silvia is.
My chassis rails are only 600mm wide & I think the S13 is 650mm. The Cima is 700mm wide so there is plenty of room in one of those.
I have found that sump fouls on the steering arm (chop it) BUt my biggest problem is the RH bank fouling on the steering column shaft as it comes out of the firewall.
Will finish fitting trans tonight & dummy fit the engine again (5 or 6th time) to centralise the whole thing then I have to think about exhaust

Any suggestions?????????

Hi buddy!!
I have an S15 spec-S.
I have seen an RB26DETT with 2 GT2835's from HKS (i.e. >600hp)!!! into an S13!!!
YES thats right. And this is from ZENITANI known as (The King Of Speed) in Japan who is a master on Silvias.
NICE TRANSPLANT you did!!!
But with the SR20DET you could go up to 700hp with less money i believe!!!
