stall problem in 87 buick

Hey everyone

I'm having a problem with my 87, 4 cylinder, fuel injected buick century. First, when I start it up after a few second it'll stall. If I'm lucky, I can get it into drive. If I'm luckier I can get it onto the road. In any case, as I'm driving the car tends to slow down when my foot is on the peddle, when I push down there is a a second delay before it speeds up again. When I come to stop, it wants to stall, and it usually does. I had the fuel pump replaced, that didn't work. THe mechanic tells me its the valve cover, that the oil is leaking, and could cause a short on the spark plugs. He says that I'm loosing spark. Now, I'm not a mechanic, I know almost nothing about cars. I'm wondering if the oil leak could be whats causing the problem, or could it be something else. I was also told it could be the oxygen sensor. Thank you very much.
