Owned this car since new in 95. (4 door, GLS). No electrical problems until a month ago - awoke one morning to find a dead battery. Installed new battery - 3 days later awoke to dead battery. Dealer said he found electrical draw from microswitch in trunk ( for trunk light). Cleaned switch - 3 days later dead battery.Several electricians have been unsuccessful diagnosing problem - when some indication of problem , it's too intermittent to track it down. Dealer disconnected microswitch - 3 days later, dead battery. Use of car is 4 - 6 trips a day , ranging from 2 - 10 miles each. My only other observation is that when something is drawing down the battery and it's close to dead, the red security alarm light next to door lock on driver's side window is on permanently - at this point flashing alarm on dash has died. I'm currently doing the rounds of different auto electrical people in the hope someone will find the problem. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

possible draw to oxy sensor? only way to find out is to connect meter to battery and remove one fuse at the time, until you see draw stop, follow from there.could well be sticking relay.

you are not the only one with this problem. My mother has a 03 Passat GLX and it has died the same way, and 5 times this year. I personaly am getting really tied of trying to do something with the car and having a dead battery. 3 batterys have been put in the vehicle under warranty and my mom wrote to VW canada and they extended her warranty for an extra year and 20,000 km. We are still fighting with VW about this problem. I am to go in Monday and talk with the dealer. I am a licenced GM mechanic and know more than they may want their average customer to know. Keep your spirits up, we will see what happens.
