Remote start kit for Century 2000

Hi everybody:
I am here again. Since my daily traveling to work and back is only 3.7 km, and would like to warm the car's engine a bit, I am thinking of installing a remote start kit. It is advertised in Canadian 'Canadian Tire' chain store for about 80 bucks (Canadian).
Does anyone here has any suggestions how to go about it? Is it labour complicated affair? Could I manage to install it with my limited automechanics expertise?
My car is Century 2000 (made in 2000).
2:
Also, I read somwhere that it is not a good idea to plug the car in overnight reffering to Century 200, apparently the warm antifreeze may confuse the sensors, blast the ice cold air into engine and create problems 'down the road'.
Should I plug it in for couple of hours before the start or not ?
Thanks
Peter

Not sure what kind of remote starter it is that you are looking at. Sounds closer to the Bulldog stuff in the US which is completely crap. Most of the install of such really isn't too hard but you must have some idea with automotive electronics. Plus, you must know how to make an install nice and clean. You should have to bypass the VATS system on the car. To me, it's a pretty simple install but then again, I do this for a living. Take a look.... http://bulldogsecurity.com/New%20Wires/New%20Wires/Wires/buickcent97-03.htm

As far as the block heater, I would use it. Especially if it gets way cold. I wouldn't know of any problems it would cause to the sensors. I mean, once the car warms up, you'd have the same condition you talk about when you plug it in :eek7:

Thank you very much for the advice(s) !
Since you do this for living, you must know for sure what make of 'Remote Car Heater' would be best suited for Century 2000. I could phone the delaer, but I am paranoid of getting biased answer. (They would like to sell me one and the installation probably).. Please, reccomend the type/make.
I will definitively have someone with experience like you to put it in.
Also, thanks for you advice on 'pluging in' the car.

Well, I love Directed Electronics equipment. I am biased though since this is what I sell. They are known here as DEI and make Viper, Python, Sidewinder, Hornet,Automate and others to mention the big names. THey are all exactly the same thing, just different names. Here in the states, one could go as low as $199 installed. Look on Ebay and you'll see some.

I just had a Clifford remote start-securuty system installed in my 97 Century. It was a bit costly, about $600, but that is with a security system as well. So far I love it. It is great to have my car warmed up before I get in it.
