PCV valve removal

I tried pulling up on the pcv today and it would just not budge at all. It seems stuck. Does the manifold have to come off?

Its a 2VZ-FE engine and it has been really impossible to get anything done on this car.

Its easy use needle nose pliers or small pry bar to pop the pcv up.

I had to use a screwdriver and a hammer to split open the old valve. I did not want to go through the headache of taking of the manifold.

I used the old "lever and fulcrum" to get mine out. Grab the PCV with your pliers (or vice grips) and use a small piece of wood or something similar as a fulcrum. Also, wear work gloves when pulling up on it because you don't want to scrape the heck out of your knuckles when it breaks free. Then smear a little oil onto the new PCV grommet and pop it right in. You can get some oil from your dipstick.

I tried using a plier to pull it out. However, since there is no room to get a positive grip and pull it straight up, I ended up breaking the top half of the valve. Then I used the "lever and fulcrum" by using a long flat blade screwdriver to pry it up, but no luck since it was like embedded in there.

My only last resort was to split it into 2 halves. If I had to do it over again, I would have left it alone and never touched it. Some things on older cars are better left untouched.

I'm very sorry to hear about your PCV removal problems. I guess I just had one that was easier to remove.[/QUOTE]
