car sputter and stutters, sometimes won't accelerate, and dies!BOTLFED98 11-25-2003, 09:08 AM ....here's my problem right now i just got the car and it ran really good for 1 day! now the thing is all messed up, it is a '96 EX 2dr automatic and when i accelerate sometimes the RPM's will jump up then straight down to zero....sometimes if i keep giving it gas it will want to accelerate and othertimes it will just be dead and i have to put it in neutral and restart it! even when i rev it in "park" it will stutter and act like it won't get past a certain rpm...what the heck could my problem be? keep in mind it doesn't do it all the time....i need to get this thing fixed asap cause i'm supposed to drive it down to FL in 2wks! BOTLFED98 11-25-2003, 09:10 AM keep in mind there r no cel or anything like that.... Ricochet 11-25-2003, 01:57 PM Tech help aside, you need to take that bitch back to wherever/whoever you bought it from and get it fixed for free, or get your money back. There are lemon laws and having a car screw up after one friggin day just isn't right. BOTLFED98 11-25-2003, 03:07 PM ya, well i bought it used from a private owner as is....it ran fine, well for a day! anyone have a clue?? Ricochet 11-25-2003, 03:37 PM uh yeah take it back to him/her and ask for your money back. A stuttering engine could mean a dozen things from you're out of gas, a clogged fuel filter, to fried piston rings or a blown head gasket... Did you drive hard or do something to make it fuck up? Did you drive hard or do something to make it fuck up? it was fine the first 2 days i got it, and yes i drove it hard....but not to f something up majorly i wouldn't think! i'm def not out of gas, and i even ran the 87 out and put 89 in it....fuel filter def could be clogged tho! Ricochet 11-26-2003, 09:00 AM only advice is try changing your spark plugs again, maybe you bought the incorrect ones. Also check your distributor by taking off those 4 screws, and look at the little rotor thing in there to see if it's maybe rusted or something. These parts are cheap relative to taking it to a dealer. BOTLFED98 11-26-2003, 10:39 AM only advice is try changing your spark plugs again, maybe you bought the incorrect ones. Ricochet 11-26-2003, 10:42 AM 3 or 4 philips screws... don't remember, but you get the point. And yes, dealers do rape you. Esox814 11-26-2003, 11:34 PM It's more than likely an electrical problem. Mechanical problems aren't intermittent, most of the time. Check your grounding wires, I would change spark plug wires and the rotor cap. You might consider investing in a service manual if you like to do it yourself. They usually have troubleshooting trees that help diagnose problems like you have. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
