2000 century and wipers

Its was a cold and snowy day when the wife had the wipers crash. She said she cleared the snow as best possible and wipers worked fine for a few miles. Then about a block from home the passenger side wiper lagged and the drivers side wiper struck it. She said they hit a few times and the pass side got knocked over in to an upright position out of the way but didn't move anymore. It was too cold to really check things out but, I pushed the pass side down into its nesting positon. there was some resistance but not much. I was able to pull it back up too. Strangly I ran them and they seem to work fine. Hmmm.
Pretty sure this will happen again. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem.

Why do people try to use their wipers in packed on snow and ice?

I would carefully check for bent linkages, and caution the wife against using them when packed. Ray

I see lots of problems with the wiper arms coming loose. Pop the cap off and check the nut. The other thing I see is the crank arm/park switch breaking. All this could be prevented by cleaning the windshield area before the wipers are turned on.

Flatrater, is their a way to have the de-icer fluid to squirt without the wipers moving? Suppose you have no way to scrape it?

"Pop the cap off and check the nut"

Thank you ! Didn't know that day if I should be pulling or twisting that off. Nicer day today and Yup, it just prys off. Tightened the nut. Should be much less likely to slip now. :)

I wish there was a way to do it per GM but there isn't. Also I don't think the nozzles would aim in the right place with the wipers down. The best thing to do is grab the wipers and make sure they are free to move.

Its getting that time of year where I will be changing broken wiper crank arms like mad! So please before you turn on the wipers make sure they are free to move.

not from me, I shall invest, in a snow scraper! And keep a soda bottle of de-icer fluid in the trunk. Now, just to make sure that I dont think it's a sun drop bottle...
