1990 Grand Caravan fuel pump "problem"Hebes 11-23-2003, 01:32 PM I have a 1990 Dodge Grand Caravan with an intermittently operating fuel pump. When I turn the key on, but before starting the engine, I hear the fuel pump cycle on and then off, which is normal. The other day, the van quit. Upon troubleshooting, I noticed that the fuel pump didn't cycle on. I removed the fuel pump, and it tested okay. I also noticed that when I take the gearshift lever and cycle it from park to neutral, to park, and turn off the key and turn it back on, the pump will operate normally for two or three times and then go back to non operational status. I'm thinking that it may be some sort of solenoid problem. Anybody have any ideas or fixes? Thanks. 2Sheds_Jackson 11-24-2003, 06:36 PM Could be the relay. I had a VW that had somehow got water into the fuel pump relay. The problem drove me crazy - sometimes the pump wouldn't run at all - then it stayed on all night & killed the battery. I pulled it, and checked it - the relay contacts were all rusted inside. $15 bucks later I'm fixed....hope this helps. aleksandr 12-02-2003, 08:21 PM I have same problem. Where's location this relay? Sport45 12-03-2003, 10:02 AM I also noticed that when I take the gearshift lever and cycle it from park to neutral, to park, and turn off the key and turn it back on, the pump will operate normally for two or three times and then go back to non operational status. Are you sure the problem is in the pump? Could be the fuel rail is pressurized and the pump doesn't need to come on. Does the computer throw any codes? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
