Cold Air intake reduces power?Praetorin 11-23-2003, 02:57 AM Ok ppl, i want to get a DC Sports CAI. I had my mind set on it. Then i got some mechanic telling me that a cold air intake will most likely reduce horsepower. And i have heard it from 2 different sources. Someone please tell me why they would say that or have any of you heard that also? Please respond. I want to be sure before i get the intake and have it installed. Praetorin -Justin BullShifter 11-23-2003, 04:56 PM Cold air intake will not reduce power unless it's got a crap ass filter on the end - Short ram intakes may reduce power due to the HOT air being sucked in. Praetorin 11-23-2003, 07:10 PM I should be able to easily install the Dc Sports CAI myself right? Praetorin - Justin MexSiR 11-23-2003, 07:54 PM Yeah I think its pretty easy, taking the stock air box out, I think you have to remove the front bumper. BullShifter 11-23-2003, 08:08 PM I've never installed a CAI on a RSX but, CAI's are usually very easy to install. brandtson 11-23-2003, 09:16 PM Then i got some mechanic telling me that a cold air intake will most likely reduce horsepower. are you talking about having less low-end torque? Praetorin 11-23-2003, 10:02 PM Not less low-end torque i think they were just saying less horses overall. Ok i have also heard that you will get better gas mileage. That sounds kind of weird for something that would give your car a little bit of a boost. Shouldn't you lose effiency? Praetorin - Justin BullShifter 11-23-2003, 10:10 PM Under normal driving condition, intakes & K&N replacement filters will increase MPG's slightly due to increased air flow. Most people don't drive normal once the intake is installed, so MPG's goes down. If your in it for performace, gas mileage should be one of your last concern's. Praetorin 11-23-2003, 10:19 PM Yeah im all about the performance, its amazing what small upgrades can do to your performance. I even noticed a difference when i switched from Castrol GTX to Mobil 1 Full synthetic. It seems to get in that higher RPM range faster now. Do you think DC Sports CAI is a good choice? Praetorin - Justin BullShifter 11-23-2003, 10:44 PM DC is alright, your paying for the name mostly. If your state is not strict with emmisions & require CARB stickers, go with a cheapie from ebay & install a K&N filter on the end. IMO the filter element matters more than the type or brand of intake tubing. http://www.importreview.com/reviews/icemanVSshortRam.html http://www.importreview.com/reviews/Mobil11030vsreg10-130valv.html For more : http://www.importreview.com/performance.html KrNxRaCer00 11-24-2003, 02:40 AM DC is alright, your paying for the name mostly. Praetorin 11-24-2003, 04:25 AM Well when your right your right :P I really like that ImportReview site, thanks for the links, and i think u have changed my mind about buying the DC Sports CAI, im sure the filter is the most important thing. 1SlowAccord 11-24-2003, 01:30 PM I'm not positive on this, but i think you might have to re-locate the washer bottle to put it on. If you look at the rsx intakes you can only see about 3inches of it after its installed. Praetorin 11-24-2003, 01:49 PM Wow?! I didn't know that. It seems like it would be hard to find another place to put the washer fluid resevoir. If you have a link to a site with Step by Step instructions that would be great! :p RSX-S777 11-26-2003, 10:56 PM I looked at all this crap for my S and just settled on the AEM SRI. I would have rather gone with the CAI, but it's outside alot in New England weather. The airbox is SO easy to remove and the AEM SRI is SO easy to bolt on....no washer reservoir bullshit or anything. Took about 30 minutes. Lost a little low-end, but it's INSANE around 3d. Bad gas mileage because I drive like an a$$hole, now :). 1SlowAccord 11-27-2003, 12:50 AM i think AEM has some the instructions on their site, i know the one's that came with it weren't that great when my friend got his CAI. In order to install a CAI, the stock resonator(in the bumper) needs to be removed not just the upper air box. integrasedan 11-28-2003, 02:14 AM cold air intakes will add more power because of more air flow and colder denser air. this mod is easy and is usually the first thing that people do. also it will make the engine sound meaner. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
