genral del sol questiondel sol 101 11-20-2003, 01:02 PM Hello, First timer post here. I have a 1979 civic and love it. But I need a car for the interstate, so I thought about a Del Sol. I do not have a history with this car, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to look for? I need good gas mileage, cold a/c, and a 5 speed. What year should I look for? Motor type? Do the higher h/p motors suck a lot more gas? What were the options? What years were they made? Anything to avoid? Thanks for any information about these cars. -Paul. DarkEternal 11-20-2003, 04:45 PM As far as gas milage, don't advance your timing and you'll be fine. For interstate use, I'd look for an Si. The S coupe is a little to weak in my opinion. You actually might end up loving your Sol more than your civic! For a Sol in good condition, you shouldn't have to pay more than $8000. I paid $4,700 for mine. However, they're collector's items now. my '93 is worth anywhere between $8000 and $10,000 (a Honda salesman, of all people, told me this). The best way to get info on these cars is to go to this site: http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2173.htm Any question that page can't answer is personal opinion questions. I think, and I'm sure everyone will agree, that the Sol is awesome and fun. You'll be more than satisfied if you get one. del sol 101 11-26-2003, 12:31 PM thanks for the reply, I have been looking around and see prices from 3k to 8k. My local dealer has one for 8k and is the vtech d*** motor w/120k on it? Would this be a normal deal? It is a 1994. Would I be better off waiting for one around 5k? It seems that there are plenty out there to be had for this price with the normal motor. Any other thoughts about these cars? Do the roofs leak? Thanks, -Paul. dejoux 11-27-2003, 01:42 AM Its VTEC not vtech. The roofs often will leak but this can be stopped with silicon spary applied regularly. Dont know US prices/availablility but get a VTEC (B16A) rather than an Si (D16B I think) if you can find one 97DelSol_Turbo 11-27-2003, 05:00 AM deffinetly go for the B16 motor. If you ever look to do aftermarket mods to the engine this is a good basis to start from. They are good on gas if you dont always have your foot in it like most cars. They handle great. With little modification to the suspension you can get them to do 1g on the skidpad. A blast to drive. I just bought (3 days ago) a 1997 Honda Del Sol with a JDM B16 in it. The car is a blast. And thanks again Cindy, for the beautiful car. Tim DarkEternal 11-27-2003, 11:01 AM 97DelSol Turbo, beautiful! absolutely awesome Sol! Sol 101, definately go for the 94 VTEC Sol, but offer the dealer $6000 and work your way up if you have to. Yes, the car is worth $8000, but don't let on that you know that. Just tell them, with 120K mi on the motor, it's just not worth more than $6000 to you. Truth is you'll love the car, and as Turbo said, it's got a good platform to work off of if you ever want to give it more 'pep'. Test drive it, if nothing major is wrong with it, I'll bet that you'll buy it. About the roof leaking, no big deal. My 93 rarely ever leaks. It has to be hurricane rains for mine to leak. 94SolGrl 12-27-2003, 08:51 PM sorry to bring back an old thread, but 97 turbo... I'm calling your bluff... Cindy still has her car.. I just talked to her. Not cool at all. SolGurl 12-27-2003, 09:01 PM See now this shit is funny... You don't own my car and its a 93 not a 97. 97's don't have aux lights captain obvious. You signed up on TeamDelSol trying to say you owned my car now you're on here. Can we say GAY. You could have gotten a few more pics of it to post off my web site like you did the one you posted. But on a side note I will sell it to you for a small fee.... Cindy (The Real Owner) deffinetly go for the B16 motor.
