I have a 1995 Buick Century with an electrical problem.
It is intermittent. The problem: Sometimes when I turn the ignition switch on the headlights, tailights and brakelights won't work, the power locks won't work, and the radio looses all of its pre-programmed stations and the clock is reset to 12:00. When i get into it (before turning the ignition switch) I can tell everything is going to work or not by testing the power locks. Everything else runs fine on the car. I even have turnsignal lights.

The battery and alternator tested out ok. I checked all of the fuses in the fuse box and they are ok.

Where I can get a wiring diagram for a 1995 Buick Century V-6. I have already went to autozone.com and downloaded their wiring diagrams BUT they don't show the power locks, the headlights, or the brake/tail lights.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tim

The accessories in question typically operate via the BCM, or body control module. If you can find the BCM, intermittent problems could possibly be traced to its wiring, or the unit itself. The schematics themselves are not useless; use them to trace the clock and radio preset issues. They might offer insight into the other issues. Something else to consider; the accessories operated with the key in the on position are typically wired with pink wires. Ray

Thanks Ray. It was a bad fusible link. It cost me $150 :( but at least it is fixed.

Another issue. Both of the front (power) windows will go down but will only raise up about an inch. Do you think it is 2 bad motors? Should I replace them? They both act the same way. I can tell you that it is a 4-door and the back windows raise with no problem.

Thanks for any info in advance.

I have a 1995 Buick Century and the driver's front window will do this occasionally. The window goes down any time the button is pressed, but every now and then, when the button for up is pressed, it goes up an inch or two and stops. Then a few seconds later I can hit the button again and it will go another couple of inches.

What I believe is happening is the circuit breaker is cutting the power to the window when it gets hot, or requests too much juice.

So the fault lies not in the circuit breaker (it doesn't do this on other windows) but somewhere between the motor and the breaker. So maybe the wire, where it goes from the body of the car to the door, in that little rubber hose you see when the door is open, it may be bad there (it is in a 1989 Celebrity of mine and was in a 1989 Century I had 2 years ago).

The motor could be going out and requesting too many amps to raise the window.

My car was wrecked on this door and the door may not be straight inside, so the added resistance may be blowing the breaker as well. It moves up fine if I pull the window up with my hand while hitting the button.

So the trouble spots to check would be...motor or wiring...
