A friend of mine mentioned to me that the 99 Accord hood alone weighs ~150 lbs. If you were to lose that and get a 15 lb. carbon fiber, you would shed ~140lbs!!!

I wonder what the results would be if we replaced the:

Hood: ? ~150 lbs
Front Bumper: ? ~ 50 lbs?
Rear Bumper: ? ~50 lbs?
Both Front Fender: ~50 lbs?

With Fiber Glass or Carbon fiber??

If we could drop from ~3300 to ~ 3000...!!!!

plus if you lightened the engine, i.e. flywheel, cam gears, etc..

im interested to see what you all think??

your friend is a moron.
hood doesn't weight 150lbs. but carbon fiber hood is a good idea, if you're looking for reducing car weight. rest of stuff doesn’t weight much, bumper covers weight 6-7lbs. fenders about 10lbs there is some company makes carbon fiber fender, they cost about $300 each and weight reduction is minimal, they done more for appearance in mind then for weight reduction. cam gears don't weight much plus nobody makes cam gears for our cars.

FYI, cars with automatic transmissions don't have flywheel, they have thing called flex plate and its 1/4" thick. it can’t get any thinner.

Damn, that sucks.

Well is there any way to lighten our car?
remove......
back seats?
spare tire?
lighter rims?

anything else?

if you strip interior, weight of car can come down to 3000lbs
