starting problems!!! jennifercking9 11-13-2003, 08:39 AM
Can someone please help me!!! My 96 Camry is giving me fits when it comes to starting it!!! I have spent so much money trying to figure out what the problem is and am still having problems!!! It is not consistent enough to pin point the problem. If it has sat all night or all day it starts fine. THe problem usually happens if it has been driven and then parked for 1-2hrs. When I try to start it, it turns over but I am unable to get it started. I've learned to give it a little gas to keep it idoling and then, while my foot is still on the gas, I shift it into gear. I've replace spark plugs, ignition coil, fuel filter, fuel pump, temperature sensor, not to mention everything else that I have found in the mean time(timing belt, brakes, radiator, cv boots, flushed transmission). I don't know what else to look at. Does anyone have any more suggestions? I've spent so much money on it I hate to get rid of it now. Camry's are suppose to last forever....at least that is what everyone says. Majooo 11-18-2003, 01:51 AM Try to check the gas pressure. It maid be too high. (A little trick in the mean time. Locate the connector for the gas pump. Disconent. Crank up. It should jump on after cca 2 seconds of starting. Then hurry up and reconent the gas pump again.) If this is your problem You'll have to replace (not all models have adjastible) gas pressure regulator. Usually located close by (or directly on) the intake mainfold... good luck csaxon 11-20-2003, 09:07 PM It sounds like a fuel pressure regulator problem. It could also be percolating fuel causing cavitation. Do you live in a hot humid area? Have your fuel lines been changed and routed around a heat source such as the exhaust manifold or closer to the engine? Are you using cheap gas, the wrong octane or ethanol? Did the problem just start or has it been going on for awhile? ChewToy 11-22-2003, 01:48 PM I have the same problem with my 94 camry 2.2L with 160k miles. After 2-4 tries the car will finally start but requires me to give it gas right away or else it dies. I just recently had the distributor replaced with a used one and that "seems" to have fixed my problem with the car stalling on me while driving for now, but I still have this intermittent problem with the car starting. Tends to be more of an issue after the cars been driven and then sits for a bit. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
