what would cuase my s-10 to knockcargirl 12-11-2001, 09:58 AM what would make a s-10 knock please help and mail me at wetgirl069217@yahoo.com flylwsi 12-12-2001, 10:53 AM what exactly do you mean by knock? where is the knock? if it is in the motor, it could be your fule octane... or a coupla other reasons... if it is in the suspension, you could be bottoming out, the shocks could be blown out, or you could have something broken, like a center link... i just replaced mine, and the small knocking i had went away... so where is it and how loud is it? 377s10 01-09-2002, 01:59 PM heheh if its a 2.8v6 its the crank for sure, get a 3.1 crank, pistons and rods, this will be a direct bolt in and will build a more durable and more powerful engine HillbilySailor 06-06-2002, 11:17 PM If it's in the engine, I'm thinking rod or main bearing. dannyrasor 12-19-2003, 08:36 PM There is alot of things that would make it knock, before i rebuilt my 2.8 it had a spun main bearing and a broken crank, it still ran but it was the loudest knock i had ever heard! Editman_64 12-20-2003, 09:21 AM I had the same problem with the knocking, especially during acceleration. Before tearing apart the engine (I thought a rod or piston as well), I switched to 93 octane gas and the knock has gone away and I have better response from the truck too. joshzr2 12-22-2003, 08:24 AM Try this. Pour about 1/2 quart of ATF into your engine oil fill. Leave it in there for about 500 miles. If that does not make the knocking sound go away, then it probably isn't a push rod tapping. I've seen some instances of a knock being caused by a loose rocker arm. If that's the case, then all you would need to do is remove the valve cover, find the loose rocker arm and tighten it to the proper torque specifications. I've only seen that a few times, so I doubt that's the problem. By the way, once you've had the ATF in your engine for about 500 miles(whether it stopped the knock or not) make sure you do a complete oil change(including filter). Hope that helps OverBoardProject 01-15-2006, 12:26 PM heheh if its a 2.8v6 its the crank for sure, get a 3.1 crank, pistons and rods, this will be a direct bolt in and will build a more durable and more powerful engine Forget the 3.1L and get the comaro 3.4L. Again they're the same basic motor only updated more, more power probably better mileage and they will probably last longer. I wish that I would have known what I do now before I re-built my 2.8L mike1224 01-15-2006, 05:17 PM what exactly do you mean by knock? if it is in the motor, it could be your fuel octane... thats my first guess too. try putting in some higher octane fuel and drive around a bit and see if that corrects the problem. Maybe i could be wrong, but couldn't it just be some of the winter additives that we use?? OverBoardProject 01-15-2006, 05:19 PM That's one of the old threads that I brought forward... Sorry Mike mike1224 01-15-2006, 05:24 PM Shit....... i don't read dates either. sorry guys....... will someone help me find my helmet, and i need the drool wiped from my face! OverBoardProject 01-15-2006, 05:27 PM Now I need all the coffee iped off my monitor after that laugh! Thanks Mike MT-2500 01-15-2006, 06:09 PM While you all are on the subject just for future reference A egr valve not working right can cause a spark knock to.
