POWER DOOR wont stay shut after pushing button

I recently purchased my 2000 Ven van from a dealership that was turned back in as a lease return. The van works perfectly except for the power sliding door, I beleive it has a mind of its own in that it reopens as soon as the door hits the electrode mechanism, but only once in a while. I have tried to use rubbing alchohol, but that only works for a short time if at all.

Has anyone had this problem and have a solution to this matter other than getting it fixed at the dealership for alot of money?

I have a 1997 Venture we bought from Carmax that does the same thing. We bought the warranty, so we take it up tp Carmax every time it won't stay shut & re-opens.

The last time I was there the mechanic told me the re-setting routine is very simple & in the owner's manual that came with the van. He said it needs to be done after unplugging the battery & for other various reasons when the door acts up.

Our 1997 venture did not have the manual when we bought it @ Carmax, but if you have your manual for the 2000 venture, the provedure would probably be in there if this Carmax guy told me correctly.

If you find the procedure in your manual & it fixes your problem, would you please post the procedure here for me ?

TIA ~

Good luck...

I have a 98 Venture that used to do this, but I cleaned the contacts and it doesn't do this any more.

FYI, there has been a recall out for the 98 model related to the door opening while the van is in motion!

There is a GM recall for the passenger side power sliding door that will be done free of charge and it don't matter if you bought it new or used.
